Definitely a cool theme

A new version of Game Over! is live and can be found by going through the Community Showcase. DocumentsUI joins the party this time around, along with some very special additions. This marks the official announcement of DLC’s which were teased some time ago and have been live for a while now. DLC’s allow users to apply Game Over!’s icons and images on top of other themes. For example, Domination with Mario icons, Spectrum with Mega Man icons(coming soon), and so on. The DLC options really only contain images/icons; the majority of the theme(backgrounds and various colors) comes from the default base level overlays.

For the uninitiated, here are the basic steps for setting up Game Over!

For the full Game Over! experience, you must select a color scheme from the base Android overlay. If you apply the base Android overlay without a color option, you WILL get plenty of white on white text. This requirement is very similar to the setup steps found in other themes.
- Select the rest of the base overlays that are available then build and apply just like you would with any other theme.
- The SystemUI Navbar and Status Bar overlays have their own dropdowns. You should select an option from these dropdowns to get themed Nav Bar/Status Bar icons.
- From Game Over!'s main dropdown, change "default base variant..." to the option of your choice. For the sake of this example, I'll use "DLC-PlumberBros".

At this point, it's important to note that you do NOT need to select a color option from Framework while using a DLC since you already did that for the base overlay(and doing so again will generate an error). Leave that alone. Just select the Android overlay, along with the others you'd like to use, then build and apply. Similarly, you do NOT need to apply any Nav Bar or Status Bar from within a DLC, as you should have already done this at the base setup stage.

If for some reason you still have the base overlay icons after applying the PlumberBros DLC, check your priorities and make sure that the PlumberBros variant is at the bottom of the list for the particular app in question. If that fails, you may need to restart the SystemUI.

To use Game Over! alongside another theme:
Set up the theme of your choosing according to that themer’s instructions.
Once you have another theme in place, go into Game Over! and select a DLC option then apply the overlays that you want to use. For example, you can set up Magpie/Domination/OrangeKittens/Spectrum/etc as you normally would. Then select the PlumberBros DLC from within Game Over! and select the SystemUI overlay to replace the QS tiles images. You can also select the AOSP Keyboard to replace some items with their PlumberBros counterparts, and so on.

Game Over!’s Base and DLC packs are as follows:

Base:
Android
AOSP Calculator
DocumentsUI
AOSP Keyboard
AOSP Messaging
PackageInstaller
Settings
SystemUI, plus Nav Bars and Status Bars
Eleven
Google Handwriting Keyboard
Google Messenger
Gmail (notifications only)
Google Keyboard
OmniSwitch

DLC-PlumberBros:
Android
AOSP Keyboard
PackageInstaller
Settings
SystemUI
Google Handwriting Keyboard

DLC-CrystalPlumber:
Android
PackageInstaller
Settings
SystemUI

DLC-Robo:
PackageInstaller

The CrysalPlumber DLC was made specifically to be used along with CrystalTronik, although there is nothing to stop you from using it with any other theme. Special thanks to +Direktive 4 for allowing me to use his color scheme and the “Crystal” moniker. Keep up the great work!

This release also includes some very special content from the artists listed below. You should pay their sites a visit; they are all quite talented and I'm confident you'll find plenty to enjoy. Thank you all very much for allowing me to feature your work here!

Oh, its about me 😁
Mike Finnegan, popularly known as Sykopompos was very kind to share with us the story of how he started out as a noob and finally became a Lead Developer of Substratum. He also tells us why the shift to Substratum from Layers was necessary. Hey, Mike! It’s nice to have you with us. Agreed. The reviews I see on subs are ridiculous

STOP bullying developers on app reviews

If there is one thing that absolutely infuriates me is users bullying developers on Play Store app reviews, more specifically:

Title: "NEEDS X FEATURE"
Review: "App needs X feature because I need it. Give it to me in the next update. Will consider re-rating".
1 star

This is the worse and most VILE form of bullying towards developers. And even worse when:

1 - The app does 100% of what it says it does
2 - Everything is 100% explicit in the description
3 - The screenshots show everything and all the features

In what world or universe does anyone think that fucking with the developer will get their way? Do they really think things will change just because they downrated and demand features/changes to cater to their magical & special needs?? Comon, get a grip.

Something needs to happen regarding reviews & perceived value for users. I don't have the answer, but Google needs to do something to smooth this archaic form of classifying apps. And I speak against myself, my main app has 4.8 rating with over 12k reviews, but how does any of the initial reviews from 5 years ago matter anymore? This is a haystack in a big scheme of things, but something seriously has to change. I don't have the answers right now, but I'm more than happy to try and figure them out together with Google/other developers.

If you agree then do something, reach out to Google, send them feedback, share this post, generate some awareness. Something has to give. I know other devs think the same. I'll do my part and try and reach out to Google.

Stop the app's review bullying, it doesn't work, it's retarded and annoying.

Ugh all I can say to this, as someone who works hospitality (I'm a cook) people in general are assholes to other people, even more so if they believe they are offended/slightly inconvenienced by something. And everyone is guilty of doing it at some point.
They used to be a system to things, a hierarchy for lack of a better word, I've seen the changes from Google play to XDA to google+. It used to be that people in the Android community knew things, there was reading, and research, and more reading, people didn't ask the say question 300 times within 3 pages and stick around, you got the boot till you got your shit together. On the same note Devs were more humble and less petty back they also, we didn't have people quiting because some others talked some shit....But I'm off track.

The point

#1 People are assholes
#2 Fuck people you guys do great work
#3 do what you do, no matter what.

ROM developers, please take notice!

Themers please ask your favorite ROM developers to adopt this script so it becomes the standard. Let's get rid of the caveman way of doing things and having to crack flash 50 ROMs.

+Char G don't know what section to put this in so I picked 'Off topic'.
