"Satan...is constantly trying to make us regard ourselves instead of Christ.

He insinuates:
'Your sins are too great for pardon;
you have no faith;
you do not repent enough;
you will never be able to continue to the end;
you have not the joy of his children;
you have such a wavering hold on Jesus.'

All these are thoughts are self, and we shall never find comfort or assurance by looking within.

...The Holy Spirit turns our eyes entirely away from self: he tells us that we are nothing, but that 'Christ is all in all.'

Remember,
it is not thy hold of Christ that saves thee - it is Christ;
it is not thy joy in Christ that saves thee - it is Christ;
it is not even faith in Christ, thought that be the instrument - it is Christ's blood and merits.

Therefore,
look not so much to thy hand with which though art grasping Christ, as to Christ;
look not to thy hope, but to Jesus, the source of thy hope;
look not to thy faith, but to Jesus, the author and finisher of thy faith.

We shall never find happiness
by looking at our prayers,
our doings,
or our feelings,
it is what Jesus is, not we are,
that gives rest to the soul.

If we would at once overcome Satan and have peace with God, it must be by, 'looking unto Jesus.'

Keep thine eye simply on Him:
let His death,
His sufferings,
His merits,
His glories,
His intercession,
be fresh upon thy mind;

...when thou wakest in the morning look to Him;
when thou liest down at night look to Him.

Oh! Let not thy hopes or fears come between thee and Jesus; follow hard after Him, and He will never fail thee.

'My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus blood and righteousness:
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly lean on Jesus' name.'"

“If God only showed up once a year, it would be worth reading every day to get that taste of glory.”

“The same theology that leads me to this view (on homosexuality) leads me to the knowledge that all humans are created in God’s image, and are therefore inherently valuable and deserve to hear this offer of God’s grace. From the Christian perspective, the most hateful thing I could do for someone would be to lie to him or her about sin and our need for Christ, as unpopular as this may be in our culture today.”

This man shared the Gospel in a very gracious and concise way after a hasty comment that cost him his job. He submitted to the decisions of the company for his termination and apologized for the trouble be caused them, but did not waver in preaching the truth of what the Bible says and what he believes.

This balance between unflinching courage and boldness paired with compassion and respect is something I pray God would grant me, if ever I am put in situation like this.

I am always amazed by John Piper's combination of simplicity and ferver to communicate truth with such raw power!

“You are not at the mercy of Satan. You are not at the mercy of nature. You are not at the mercy of man’s cleverness or carelessness or evil. You are rock-solid secure in God’s omnipotent hands, and you will not die except at his decision.”

When the thought of dying haunts you, say to death, “If you let me live, Christ will be honored in my life. If you take away my life, I get more of Christ. I can’t lose.”

Guest book review by my sister Maya on Earnest Hemingway's classic novel, The Sun Also Rises. It is a sobering book based off the theme of vanity in Ecclesiastes, "with one difference. Hemingway ends his book in despair. Ecclesiastes in determination."
