To celebrate the launch of Vivid Sydney we are proud to announce that we will be broadcasting 'Lighting the Sails' live on Facebook for the very first time.

Tune in tomorrow from 5:45pm AEST on the Sydney Opera House Facebook page (http://bit.ly/1TC0sD3) to be among the first to watch 'Songlines' illuminate our iconic sails, transforming them into an animated canvas of Australian indigenous art.

Directed by our Head of Indigenous programming, Rhoda Roberts, 'Songlines' is inspired by the ancient dreaming tracks that weave across the landscape and skies, featuring the work of six renowned Indigenous artists: Karla Dickens, Djon Mundine OAM, Reko Rennie, Gabriella Possum, Donny Woolagoodja and the late Gulumbu Yunipingu.

Join us for the 'lights on' moment as we present the first indigenous work commissioned exclusively for the sails of the Sydney Opera House.

An absolutely iconic building. You must go there. Beautiful location, just next door to the Botanic Gardens and round the corner from Circular Quay ferry terminal and underground station. Excellent eateries in the opera house complex but they can be busy. Excellent opera, concert and play theatres but in an austere, modern style; don't expect Vienna or Budapest opera houses.

Breathtaking tourist attraction in Sydney. A must visit for all tourists and new sydneysiders alike. It is not as milky white as we see it in photos. The tiles have turned into a pale yellow colour. There are excellent bars and restaurants around the opera house to make your evening a better.

What can be said about this place. It's the best. Even as a local, whenever I go there it makes me happy. I feel very lucky that this is in our back yard. Drinks, events, jogging around it, it's awesome :)

An amazing piece of architecture that gives you a great place to view another amazing piece of architecture (the Sydney harbour bridge). You don't have to be seeing a show at one of the many venues here, or eating and drinking at one of the fine bars to enjoy the place. Just sitting with a sandwich on the steps taking in the view of the bridge, the harbour, the botanic gardens and the city is a great joy and costs nothing.

Another iconic landmark, this is truly Sydneys' soul. Has got drinks bar inside and several halls of different sizes for different performances. Iconic architecture and worth the tour for the technical details. Of course to also watch a performance with its excellent acoustics.

Opera house makes for a truly iconic sight, along with the harbour bridge. I had the pleasure of listening to one of the Indian singing legends there, and it was beautiful. The acoustics were very good. Even outside the Opera house is a nice place to hang around. There is lot of space to walk around or sit down and enjoy the view. There is the Opera bar right next to it, which has both open and covered seating. Overall, a great place to visit, for both tourists and locals alike.

We had an amazing time watching this event. The opera house is beautiful inside and has great acoustics for shows like this. We were seated 3 quarters of the way back and could still see everything and hear everything really well. Great view of the harbour and nightlife during intermission. Highly recommend seeing a show there.

This is a must-see. It's great that you are allowed to walk up to, and around the building. There are tours, which I didn't go on. At the end of May/start of June, there is the Vivid Festival and they project different graphics on to the opera house roofs.
