"Freire’s crystalline articulation and remarkable dexterity ensured the virtuosic passagework was executed with ease." The Australian.

Pianist Nelson Freire returns to the Opera House to perform Schumann's rhapsodic Piano Concerto. See him perform with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra tonight and tomorrow: http://bit.ly/2cVoNnb
At 72, Brazilian pianist Nelson Freire may not be a pianistic household name such as Martha Argerich, Evgeny Kissin or Murray Perahia, but his artistry is recognised as being of their ilk.

“The Sydney Opera House is the symbol of modern Australia. It is our responsibility as custodians of this extraordinary place to maintain and renew it for all Australians.” The NSW Deputy Premier and Minister for the Arts, Troy Grant, speaking today at the unveiling of what he called 'stunning designs' for the largest program of upgrades to the Opera House since we opened in 1973.

Our Renewal program will upgrade acoustics, accessibility and flexibility of the Concert Hall, replace machinery that’s reached the end of its operational life in the Joan Sutherland Theatre and will ensure the Opera House continues to welcome and inspire people in as many ways possible.

"I do not obey rules because they are rules, but because they make sense. When they don't, I feel free to ignore them..."

Hear more from the Lion Shriver, author of 'We Need to Talk About Kevin' this weekend at the Festival of Dangerous Ideas: http://bit.ly/2bJXI5F
The Mandibles is Lionel Shriver's new book. Will it be as widely successful as We Need to Talk About Kevin, the book that made her rich and famous? It certainly has all the controversial elements.

Went to a show here and was very impressed with the size on the inside (is it bigger?) and the architecture. A very different venue, and great sound. Quite a few bars which is nice, but very limited seating. The seats in the theatre were a good size and quite comfortable.

Iconic is the only word to describe this architectural masterpiece. Not only does it stand out from the outside but once you step inside it continues to surprise with elegant concrete twists and turns. Having attended many a live performance in the main concert hall, its acoustically incredible, though not ideal if you are seated a long way from the stage as its quiet a distance. Theres also a LOT of stairs to negotiate, so sensible or not so high heels would make the walk a lot easier on your ankles. The only truly negative impression that the opera house has ever had on me is the choice of wine thats for sale before shows. I have never been fond of any of the offerings always thinking ~ surely a world class venue could have a better selection of pre show beverages available??

Family and I went on the guided tour of the Opera house that took us deep into the heart of the famous landmark and introduced us to the troubled history of the Opera house and the esteemed architect who never got to see his final product. Our tour guide was especially knowledgeable and extremely passionate about the history and culture surrounding this building.

What can anyone say other than this is Sydney's icon at its best. Spectacular. Amazing history behind its construction. Runs all sorts of events from high brow ballet, opera and theatre to school functions and children's events. The acoustics are amazing. The spot on the harbour is breath taking, views into north, south west and east Sydney. This is where Sydney converges for the fire works and national celebrations. Anyone who is anyone should attend a function of some sort to experience this amazing spot on this spectacular harbour. Surrounded by bars and restaurants. Those can be expensive but it is well worth the money.

Went there for My Fair Lady and it was everything you would hope for. Beautifully presented, production was fantastic, music and costumes just wonderful. HOWEVER the Joan Sutherland Theatre Bar was a shocker. Ordered a $65 supper plate for two and got two sandwiches, mini pie, a tart and two glasses of wine. Woeful.

Fantastic place to visit in Sydney. It's an iconic landmark. Opera House and its surrounding area is worth seeing. Awesome region specially during evening. I & my family enjoyed a lot.
