Graphene may be the most remarkable substance ever discovered. But what’s it for?
An interesting overview about the state of graphene research and the current applications.

Interesting TED talk about Eulerian video magnification.
You can try it out for yourself with the Android "Pulse" app, developed by +Pedro Chambino in connection to his research at Fraunhofer Portugal: http://p.chambino.com/dissertation/
Meet the “motion microscope,” a video-processing tool that plays up tiny changes in motion and color impossible to see with the naked eye. Video researcher Michael Rubinstein plays us clip after jaw-dropping clip showing how this tech can track an individual’s pulse and heartbeat simply from a piece of footage. Watch him re-create a conversation by amplifying the movements from sound waves bouncing off a bag of chips. The wow-inspiring and sinist...

I'm a big fan of +OpenStreetMap and the +Osmand Android implementation of it.
Another alternative to Google maps I just discovered is Nokia's HERE app. It is not "open" like OSM is, but it looks clean and nice and you can download maps for offline use.

OpenStreetmap: http://www.openstreetmap.org/
OsmAnd: http://osmand.net/
HERE Maps (Nokia): http://here.com/
HERE offers fast, accurate maps that are always ready to use, with or without an internet connection. Search for places, find routes and get turn-by-turn voice guidance wherever you are. Underground, on holiday, or even in the middle of nowhere: HERE just works, always. HERE. Maps for Life.
