Volunteers Needed!
The Social Concern Office has openings for volunteers who want to help feed the hungry of Victoria. We need someone with basic computer skills, a non-judgemental attitude and an ability to interact with the public to be part of the Wednesday afternoon front desk team that gives food out to eligible people who come through our doors. Also, we need a volunteer for Monday mornings to help in the back room where the bread gets bagged and the fruits and vegetables are sorted. We are flexible and try to accommodate our volunteers' availabilities, but we hope for a fairly regular commitment. If you want to ask questions or volunteer, please contact Margaret at mmacintyre@svdpvictoria.com or 250-727-0007 or 250-208-2555 (cell).

40 CANS FOR LENT

Knights of Columbus and St. Vincent de Paul are once again requesting your help for the poor in our community during Lent.
By donating 50 cents per day for 40 days you will provide 40 cans of food to those most in need.

Your $20 donation made out to Knights of Columbus Council 13356, or cans of food/soup can be placed in the box to be provided at the church entrance.

For more information about the Knights of Columbus, visit their website http://kofcbc.org/

Folks have been gathering at the Social Concern Office on View St for two new events. Every Monday from 1:30 - 3:00 seniors get together to knit, do crafts, and just enjoy a good chat. On Wednesdays, also from 1:30 - 3:00, anyone who enjoys a good discussion about what's going on in the world gathers with like minded people to have a coffee and express their opinion. Good fun!

After typhoon Pablo hit the Philippines last year, with devastating consequences, the SSVP (among hundreds of other Canadian non-profits) stepped up to support the rebuilding processes. Among the many projects is a housing complex in the Diocese of Tagum, that thanks to your generous support has just entered it's second stage:

"I hereby wish to inform you that the first phase is now over and that we have just sent them the funds you have given for the second phase....I seize the opportunity to thank your countries once again for their generous support on this."

While the rest of Canada slowly freezes, we here in Victoria are doing more then just admiring our green grass (...and luscious gardens, sunny patios, and warm, lets-wear-shorts-to-work weather)... Take a look at how St. Joseph's parish is giving back to our community!

Special thanks to Emilio, John and Ursula :)
