SumOfUs releases a new parody video criticizing use of palm oil and PepsiCo responds.
On Tuesday, SumOfUs, an international consumer advocacy organization, released a new parody video that calls out Doritos and its parent company, PepsiCo, for use of unsustainable palm oil in Doritos products and the subsequent destruction caused to Southeast Asian rainforests, species and communities. But PepsiCo has responded by defending its policy and dismissing the group's messages.

HFO-1234ze is part of Honeywell's line of Solstice hydrofluoro-olefin (HFO) products that have extremely low global warming potentials—either equal to or less than carbon dioxide—and that are safe, available today and capable of making a significant positive environmental impact.
Honeywell has announced that it has started full-scale commercial production of a low-global-warming-potential (GWP) material used as an aerosol propellant, insulating agent and refrigerant. Valio says it will trial the package with Valio Eila® lactose free semi-skimmed milk drink in retail outlets across Finland until mid March, and use feedback from consumers to decide whether to adopt the cartons more broadly across its chilled product range.
Finnish dairy producer Valio has become the first company in the world to sell products to consumers in carton packaging made entirely from plant-based materials. Consumers are able to buy these packages at retail shops in Finland beginning this week. Launched in October by Tetra Pak, Tetra Rex® Bio-based is the first package manufactured solely from a combination of plastics derived from plants and paperboard.

The sustainable usage of humic acid can reduce the need for artificial fertilizer and phosphates in agriculture and horticulture. This will improve the groundwater used to produce drinking water, and the growth of crops, as well as being better for the environment.
Royal HaskoningDHV has partnered with Dutch water supply company Vitens to help other drinking water companies around the world recover humic acid, an organic fertilizer. Humic acid is often discharged as a waste product during the drinking water blanching process. However, it can now be reclaimed sustainably in its pure form, providing an organic soil improver.

GM revealed the Chevrolet Bolt EV concept, an all-electric car that is designed to offer more than 200 miles of range, with an affordable sticker price of $30,000.
Concept cars are always great fodder for gawking at automobile shows, and in turn they do a fine job of generating buzz and stellar photographs. Stonyfield commits to supplying its products from organic farms where no pesticides, antibiotics, artificial hormones or GMOs are used.
Stonyfield Farm has taken the transparency of its supply chain to a new level by creating a source map for each of its ingredients. The New Hampshire-based organic dairy brand worked with SourceMap to create a map detailing the location, farm conditions and history for each of its ingredients, ranging from the dairy farms that supply its milk to the peaches, pears and raspberries that flavor its products.

Fifty-seven companies, including BASF, Boeing and Ford, have joined the Department of Energy’s new Manufacturing Innovation Institute for Advanced Composites. The consortium of companies, nonprofits and universities led by the University of Tennessee-Knoxville are investing more than $250 million to launch a new institute focused on cutting-edge research on advanced fiber-reinforced polymer composites.
