I did not know Melissa but share your sorrow at the passing of a talented writer and friend. Losing anyone is hard. As we age, losing friends and family is an inevitable evil--worse than Google.

Wow. What a horrible stroke of luck for the man. I guess the innocent still get caught while the guilty get away. Find me here. LINK

I was in my second year of university at Carleton in Ottawa when this happened. The idea that the PM could call out the army like he did was terrifying. Hard to believe people acted the way they did. Now, almost 50 years later, it's old history and nothing's really changed. Hey, they guy tried. You have to give him credit and I'm sure he wasn't the only leader of the day who liked his booze. Think Sir John A.! As for Louis Riel, I wouldn't call him a crazy Canadian rebel idealist. While it's true he and his government were treated as traitors and he was executed, today, he's considered a hero--maybe even a founding father. History has a way of changing like that. Love your post, especially since this is our 150th birthday. Find me here.LINK

And now, there are no elephants in circuses. I'm not convinced that's a good thing since the ride on the elephant's back is one of my most cherished childhood memories. I've seen the statue in St. Thomas, but hadn't heard all of the "how he died" stories. Thanks for sharing and visiting me.

Just getting caught up. Poor thing. As the nurse said--been there, done that, but it still hurts.
