Bottle Cap from the Future
My husband often leaves bottle caps lying around. It's something we used to argue about, and now, after more than a decade of marriage, joke about. I've given up trying to break him of the habit and just throw them away myself. This morning I picked up a St...

Poem: Forgotten
My socks are cotton, Not silk; White, Not black or argyle or paisley. When I sit with legs crossed My ankle is exposed. It's obvious I don't belong Here among stone columns And gilt ceilings And echoing marble floors. In theory, I own this building. In prac...

Poem: Acorns
photo by womanimal Be careful when you walk this path. Your huge, galumphing feet cannot feel The many tiny things they trample. An acorn is just a seed, A small nut,  Until it's broken. Stomp on that acorn, crack it, And it will grow Tenacious tendrils int...

When Taking Is Giving
"What can I give you for your birthday?" "Oh, nothing, please! I already have everything I need." It's a conversation I've participated in many times, both asking and answering. We want to give gifts to our friends and family to show that we love them. But ...

She is a fallen star, Cruelly Forced from the heavens, The only home She'd ever known. I did not see where she fell. I have searched Cold, green mountain hollows And bleak fields of asphalt. I've inquired At fortresses of marble, Concrete, and paper. No one...

Poem: Saw Her in Line at the Coffee Shop
Red, red, red Lips like a stoplight Pulled my eyes To her dark eyes blackened darker Than her inky hair. She glowed like a neon light, Filled that corner of the coffee shop With luminous beauty. And yet. The look on her face, The posture of her Exquisitely ...

Introduction
Originally from Salinas, CA, I attended the York School for high school, then moved out to Tennessee to go to the University of the South. After graduating with a degree in Religion, I gadded about Atlanta for a while and ended up with an AA in Multimedia from the Art Institute. After that, I worked for iXL, moved to Charlotte, NC briefly, then moved to Columbia, SC and married George King. We now live in Aiken, SC with our two boys and three cats.
