Just in time for the 4th of July, it's jackfruit-infused ribs!
These tender ribs make the best barbecue sandwiches ever!

These baked fries are such a treat, especially with vegan Horseradish Comeback Sauce!
Crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, these baked portobello fries are vegan and completely oil-free. To make gluten-free portobello fries, substitute rice flour and gluten-free bread crumbs.

Roasted onions make a delicious cream that you can make into dressings and sauces or just add to any recipe for extra flavor.
Though any type of onion will do, for the whitest cream, use white onions. Roasting sweetens onions, so if you use a sweet variety, you will probably need to add more lemon juice to offset it.

I've finally found my favorite vegan ranch dressing!
Most ranch dressings get their addictive properties by using a combination of buttermilk, mayonnaise, and sour cream. Some even contain cream cheese! Because this version doesn't contain any of those high-fat ingredients, it will taste less rich to those who are used to fatty dressings. If you want to increase the richness component, you can add a handful of raw cashews to the blender and increase the seasonings to compensate.

My latest recipe is a veganized, soy-free version of eggplant parmesan that can also be gluten-free. And best of all, it's delicious!
Simply use gluten-free bread to make this delicious main dish soy-free and gluten-free. See notes below for a simpler variation.

Without any oil, it's amazing how much this vegan, baked eggplant tastes like fried!
When I was creating my last recipe, Oven-Fried Okra, I suspected that the batter I used, a combination of cornmeal and brown rice flour, would make a wonder

These Portobello Fries are so delicious, and they contain no added oil, so they make a healthy appetizer or sandwich filling.

If you crave Southern fried okra but not the oil, this recipe is for you!
When I was growing up, I knew of only three ways to eat okra--in gumbo, stewed, or fried. As I've gotten older and had the opportunity to try recipes from a

Introduction
I'm happy to be doing what I love most: cooking food, taking photos of it, writing about it, and eating it (not necessarily in that order!)  My blog was voted Readers' Favorite by VegNews magazine for the fourth time in 2011, and I recently took the photos for Wild About Greens, a cookbook by Nava Atlas. I am also the photographer for two of Atlas's previous books, Vegan Express and Vegan Holiday Kitchen.

If you're vegan, this is the place to go in Grinnell. I've been here 3 times, and it gets better every time. We let the server know we were vegan, and the chef took care of us personally, offering us a special vegan dessert, a chocolate covered cherry truffle that was out of this world. You won't find it on the menu, so be sure to ask. I also love the curried vegetables with their light coconut flavor. The eggplant sandwich minus the cheese is also a good, economical option, but do add the optional roasted red peppers.
