Attended Alex Webb's talk here in Sydney over the weekend.

Fun fact: Alex shot 5 rolls of film in 45 minutes to get this one shot.

waiting a long time for a bus at lunchtime, i got hungry and mentioned it to a woman also waiting. she suggested hank's, just around the corner. many people in the long line were ordering cheeseburgers: it was cheeseburger day (one wednesday a month). this was the best cheeseburger of my life - so succulent and fresh. (i was a visitor from nyc, where i have had many good cheeseburgers.)

people who run it are terrific; quality uneven, but mostly very good; best in Washington Heights; prices low.

I've had excellent service and meals and (less often) horrible service and meals. I live in the neighborhood, so I've been a regular customer for a while. I had some of the best soft-shell crabs ever here. I've had some of the smallest portions ever (linguine, chopped salad) here. The Albuquerque melt (like eggs benedict, kind of) has unripe avocado sometimes. The chicken on the sandwich can be dry and tasteless or juicy and delicious. The "special" spread is terrible - wish they had butter - and the "special" bread is awful. Why won't they also serve regular bread? I've waited forever to order and also had speedy service. They seem to always be looking for new wait staff. I wonder why. By the way: get off the A train in the first or second northbound car, at 181st St rather than 190th. And - why is this categorized as a chinese restaurant? It's American eclectic.
