wow... We have the same thing going on in Vancouver, predatory foreign money.
We just had an election in Canada a few days ago and the winning candidate had affordable housing as an item in their platform.
We will see...
It is sad to observe the manipulation that these real-estate people are pitching. They also actively seek out the foreign money. Foreign people are great, their money is breaking many communities.
So I was in tech in Vancouver and we left way back in 2004 for this exact reason. Housing was outpacing wage growth even for someone moving quickly up in a company. The decision was easy, only suckers would stay in that situation.
So we left for an unnamed city and started our own tech company that could work from anywhere.
Do not do this! It is hard. Really hard. Mostly because all market data pitched by market-places/app stores is about as honest as the real-estate friends in the video. Full of B.S. Even big G.
It is all a facade, it is all empty behind the curtain. Sure, they are trying to show good numbers to generate momentum, but at what point does it become a plain old lie?
I think it might be part of the essence of S.V. so can not be changed.
We have decided to move our sights east for a bit more honesty.
I feel for you Susan, actually I feel for your kids more. Consider a move, don't be handcuffed forever.
I wonder what pushes a society towards communism? Is this it? Before 1950 China was capitalist... I learned that recently. I am not sure what that says about the wealthy arriving here, so ruthless that the general public had to revolt. Maybe that is part of the accelerating nature of the house prices.
There is way more to happiness than money, and I imagine you have the opportunity to see that first hand.
Best of luck to you.
