High school students from throughout the region learned first-hand about the healthcare industry’s high-demand and lucrative careers during the healthcare awareness camp, which was held July 15-17 at Surry Community College’s campus in Dobson. The camp included visits to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center and Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital.

Attend orientation for more information on the truck driving classes. Surry Community College in cooperation with Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute offers truck driver training at SCC’s Yadkin Center. The 8.5 week course, which meets Monday through Friday from 8 AM until 5 PM, leads to a CDL Class A license. Call (336) 386-3584 for more information.

The class will cover regulations and test inspection procedures and is taught to insure that the student understands the rules and regulations, can inspect a vehicle properly and can successfully pass qualification exams for certification as a safety and emissions inspector at a licensed inspec...

Surry Community College will be offering a beginner sewing class on July 14 and 16 from 6 to 9 p.m. each night. The easy apron class will guide students through the process of creating a handy, attractive, professionally constructed apron. 

Instructor Mary Emily Cooke will teach students how to read and use a pattern, as well as how to properly cut and mark fabric. Participants will discuss straight and cross grains in fabric and the importance of proper pressing. 

The class fee of $49 includes all supplies and the use of a sewing machine. The class will be held at The Pilot Center, 612 East Main Street, Pilot Mountain. Registration and pre-payment are due by July 10.

North Carolina requires professional tradesman to obtain yearly continuing education units. Surry Community College offers CEUs for electricians. Introduction
Surry Community college's main campus is located in Dobson, NC in the beautiful foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains servicing Surry and Yadkin counties. We also operate the Workforce Development Center in Mount Airy, the Yadkin Center in Yadkinville, the Pilot Center in Pilot Mountain, and The Elkin Center in Elkin.

We offer 36 areas of study, many of which have options for an associate degree, diploma or certificate, as well as online degrees.

In addition, the college serves over 18,000 students in over 1,500 classes through our Corporate and Continuing Education division. This area of the college offers a variety of learning opportunities through “not-for-credit” classes for those looking to take a one-time class for personal enrichment or to expand their knowledge base in a particular area.
