This training is geared toward machinists, fabricators, manufacturers, and small businesses. Students will create 3D models of their designs/products and test for fit, form, and function before spending valuable time manufacturing a product that may not fit together. Studies will include basic 3D modeling techniques using Solid Edge ST8, design-intent, file management, and design theory among other topics.

Surry Community College student Taylor Osborne, of State Road, researched the southern campaign of the American Revolution for his Elkin High School senior project, building three dioramas that represent scenes from the battles of Camden, Guilford Courthouse and Yorktown. The project is now on exhibit at the Mount Airy Museum of Regional History. Osborne is taking history classes at SCC with plans to transfer next year to UNC Greensboro to earn bachelor’s and master’s degrees in history. Osborne would someday like to teach history at either the high school or college level while he earns his PhD.

Introduction
Surry Community college's main campus is located in Dobson, NC in the beautiful foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains servicing Surry and Yadkin counties. We also operate the Workforce Development Center in Mount Airy, the Yadkin Center in Yadkinville, the Pilot Center in Pilot Mountain, and The Elkin Center in Elkin.

We offer 36 areas of study, many of which have options for an associate degree, diploma or certificate, as well as online degrees.

In addition, the college serves over 18,000 students in over 1,500 classes through our Corporate and Continuing Education division. This area of the college offers a variety of learning opportunities through “not-for-credit” classes for those looking to take a one-time class for personal enrichment or to expand their knowledge base in a particular area.
