Tips for Mould Free Fridge while in Storage
One of the biggest problems when storing your fridge is mould.
We have a couple of tips to help prevent mould in your fridge while in storage.
When moving and storing, your fridge be sure to leave it in an upright position and the door open.
• Defrost your Refrigerator
Defrost your fridge, a couple of days to a week before storing it is definitely recommended, to make sure it can be dried well.
• Clean your fridge meticulously
Wash and dry your fridge thoroughly in all the walls, corners and edges, drawers and glass trays and removable part in the fridge with warm soapy water, or bicarb soda make sure that you don’t leave any food behind. Mould can occur even without any food left behind, as moisture in a clean fridge can also cause mould.
It is not recommended to use bleach or other strong cleaning products as this can discolour your fridge or cause the plastic to crack over time.
• Keep your fridge dry
After the fridge is defrosted and cleaned, you should make sure it is completely dry before you store it. If your fridge isn’t dry when you store it, the fridge will be covered with mould when its redelivered to you. To prevent this, simply leave the fridge door slightly ajar when leaving your storage unit.
• Keep It Upright
You should as much as possible, keep your fridge upright. Moving your fridge and tipping it too often, can damage the compressor.
