Many hats serve a purpose; safety, protection from the sun and this time of year especially they can keep that noggin warm. But break away from the functional hat and celebrate #NationalHatDay with a statement! Sunnybrook at Muscatine residents Nancy, Doris, and Lucy had a blast making hats each ready to make their own statement this week for National Hat Day. What hat are you sporting? It's #MLKDay and today we take a moment to reflect on the importance of Martin Luther King Jr. and his influential “I Have a Dream” speech. Martin Luther King Jr’s dream was for all races and backgrounds to be treated equally. He gave hope to a nation when we needed it most. Sunnybrook at Muscatine resident Mary recalled, as the daughter of immigrant parents, being told "You'll never amount to much," but like Martin Luther King Jr. she had a dream to become a teacher and enriching the lives of all children. Mary made that dream a reality and, in turn, she has always enjoyed teaching her students about Martin Luther King Jr!

Pharmacists play an important role in Health Care today by educating us on side effects of drugs and recognizing how drugs interact with each other. Join us in celebrating and thanking Pharmacists this #NationalPharmacistsDay, and every day!

Lifelong Learning, or the ongoing pursuit of knowledge, engages the mind and keeps the brain healthy no matter what your age! Other benefits of lifelong learning include: keeping the mind sharp, improving memory, increasing self-confidence, and creating an opportunity to learn new or build on old skills. The Lifelong Learning Series at Sunnybrook at Muscatine offers community presentations each month that encourage learning and exploration. Our lectures are always open to the public and will never be sales related. We have all heard the phrase, “Use it or lose it.” That old saying applies to your neurological health as well as your physical health, so mark your calendar and join us for our next Lifelong Learning presentation entitled Pet Therapy: Changing Today’s Classroom on January 25th at 3:00 pm here at Sunnybrook at Muscatine!

“The Weather outside is frightful, but the crafts inside delightful, and since we’ve no place to go, Let it snow! Let it snow! Let it snow!” The cold spell in our area has been pretty brutal, but Sunnybrook at Muscatine residents Mary, Phyllis, Char, and Patricia enjoyed the warmth inside making penguin thermometers. -18 degrees is a little more bearable when a cheery little penguin is looking back at you!
