Laura Diaz, the lead anchor for Fox 11 in Los Angeles is a true example of somebody who is living the
American Dream. And the reputation she has earned as one of the Southland’s most recognized and
trustworthy voices in the news media, is not only based on her amazing story telling ability, it is primarily
based on the lessons she learned early in life.
If you don’t know who Laura Diaz is – you soon will. The lead anchor for the Fox affiliate in Los Angeles,
California since September of 2011, Laura Diaz has worked very hard in her career to become a highly-
regarded journalist. After earning a college BA degree from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo she started like
most journalist begin – covering local news stories at smaller news stations. But, unlike others in her
graduating class, Laura Diaz didn’t accept the concept of slowly progressing to success.
She literally grabbed success by the horns and made herself truly engaging.
After working a few local jobs, she return to her home of Southern California, not as a roving reporter,
but as an anchor for one of the biggest television stations in the United States, KABC-TV in Los Angeles.
She served as a co-anchor from 1989 till 1997 when she became the first Hispanic lead-anchor in Los
Angeles for the 5pm and 11pm news broadcasts.
Talk about taking life by the horns huh?
For several years, especially in the early 1990’s Laura Diaz showed why she would be considered one of
the most trustworthy voices in the highly competitive Southern California media market. She covered,
from a personal point of view and amazing dictation the devastating Los Angeles Riots in 1992, where at
one point she was threatened by gunpoint. Ever the professional, she remained calm and continued to
report the news.
It was this professionalism and ability to stay calm during high-pressure situations which has created a
strong and highly passionate fan following over the years. She brought this fan base to the Los Angeles
CBS affiliate in 2002 and for 9 years continued to deliver award-winning journalism every step of the
way; including producing and hosting a great segment called “Eye on Our Community”. This highly
engaging segment brought up extremely controversial subject matter which Laura Diaz reported with
factual information and surprisingly – no media bias.
Laura Diaz also told an amazing story about Billy Queen, an undercover Federal Agent who exposed
a deadly motorcycle gang. She also had the strength to directly approach Southern California gang
members to conduct her report entitled “Emotional Gangs”; a story which showcased how rival gangs
are spreading hate based on race alone. With every story she has told, produced and reported on; Laura
Diaz has earned the respect of virtually everybody in the news community.
Although Laura Diaz has been highly decorated with awards including 14-Emmy Awards, a three-time
Imagen Award winner and the recipient of the LA Press Club’s highly prestigious Joseph M. Quinn Award
for journalistic excellence and distinction, Laura Diaz has never wavered from her social responsibility.
Donating her time to well over 15 social and local based organizations annually, Laura Diaz continues
to help develop the future Laura Diaz’ of the world. She is not only a highly engaging lady, she is
charismatic and honorable – a trait which is often not associated with the news media.
When you simplify the story of Laura Diaz the Anchor in Los Angeles – it starts with hard work, honesty
and integrity and continues with each of these values in her personal life as well. Laura Diaz has earned
every honor she has captured and it’s her dedication to providing solid, credible and reliable reporting
