During the „+Ubuntu Phone Insider Launch Event“ I had the chance to make an interview with VP Mobile +Cristian Parrino from Canonical.
He unveiled a couple of interesting information including the future plans of Ubuntu Phone, like a third manufacturer next to bq and Meizu and the launch in the US later this year!
Check out the interview!

I don't see the future of Ubuntu Phone bright. I would love the platform to succeed but I'm afraid it won't happen.
The first BQ phone is a low end with old HW. You can get the same from China for less then 100 USD. And it will have Android.
That is another bad decision not to support Android applications. Am I supposed to get a phone without WhatsApp, Waze, OsmAnd, Total Commander, VLC, Angry Birds and many popular applications if I can have a phone with all this for half the price?
The feature I was looking for - convergence - is not there and won't be available for next 2 years. Meanwhile will Microsoft in about 6 month introduce exactly this. So Ubuntu will again come late to a market already taken by MS.
Or am I wrong?Feb 11, 2015
