Since I’ve been paying attention to the fast-moving developments surrounding Unmanned Aerial Systems – #UAS or #UAV (-ehicles), more commonly called #drones — I wanted to know what other #photographers are thinking about the current state of #dronephotography and how it’s impacting their business, good or bad. I sent five questions to two other photographers who are using #drones for #aerialphotography and asked their opinions, then I answered my own questions too from the perspective of a #drone skeptic. The whole thing was written up for a guest blog post on the APA/EP website and the full-length Q&A, along with some photos from the three of us, can be found here.

Spoiler alert — I’m still a drone skeptic 😉

I'm proud to currently be a featured interview on the Copyright Alliance blog http://copyrightalliance.org/ca_post/5-questions-individual-creator-members-buchanan

For those not familiar, the Copyright Alliance describes itself as "The Unified Voice of the Copyright Community."

Anyone who's associated with #photography or who earns a living by creating, and who’s not already familiar with the Copyright Alliance, should be. If you’d like more information on #copyright law, how the process works, how to register your works, how to enforce your rights, important past #copyright legal decisions, finding a #copyright #lawyer, or most any other facet of #copyright, try their Education, Resources, or Copyright Law pages.

This organization is doing great work on behalf of all of us who rely on this very important aspect of the law which allows us to earn our livings. Thanks.

#Cinemagraphs are a popular way of combining still and motion in to a single image. More than an animated GIF, cinemagraphs start with a short #video file, then cover it with a still frame, and finish by masking off some of the still image to allow the #motion behind to show through. I've started working with #cinemagraphs as a way to offer #marketers a contemporary, eye-catching #marketing piece to engage media-savvy viewers.

New #Aerial #Photography of the University of Washington, #Seattle Campus and Sound Transit Light Rail #UW Stadium Station

Anyone who's paying attention here in #Seattle knows that both Sound Transit and the University of #Washington are on big building sprees.

The recent election just guaranteed 25 additional years of Light Rail and other #transit construction throughout Puget Sound, while the UW is planning to add almost 30% more square feet to its Seattle campus is just the next 10-12 years.

On my blog, I recently posted new #aerial #photography galleries of:

- the University of Washington’s Light Rail Station and Pedestrian Overpass Bridge
- the University of Washington’s East Campus including #Husky Stadium, the #Montlake Cut, Union Bay, and #UW sports fields
- the UW's Central Campus including Rainier Vista, Drumheller Fountain, Suzzallo Library, and Red Square
- the University of Washington’s South Campus including the UW Medical Center, Montlake Cut, and the Dept. of Bioengineering
- the University of Washington’s West Campus west of 15th Ave NE, including NE Pacific Street, Mercer Court Apartments, and Alder, Lander, Maple, Terry, and Elm Student Residence Halls.

See the links to the #aerial #photos here:

Why I’m Not Sold on Using #Drones for Professional #Marketing #Photography.

There’s been an awful lot of news coverage lately regarding Unmanned Aerial Systems — UAS or #UAV (-ehicle) — more commonly called #drones. Since I’ve loved flying and been a licensed private pilot for more than 30 years (more on that here) and an #aerial #photographer for the past 15 years, I’ve been paying attention to these fast-moving developments. Many of my clients are asking me about using #drones for their #aerialphotography needs, so let me tell you what I know up ’til now and why I’m not yet sold on using consumer-level drones for professional #photography. #seattle
