Summer, 2017 has been another very busy season shooting #architecturalphotography projects here in #Seattle and elsewhere! With many returning clients, some out-of-town jobs, and new #architect clients calling for #photography of #architecture as well, the jobs from Portland, Oregon to Muscatine, Iowa to #aerialphotography above #Seattle have been varied, challenging, and really fun to photograph. Thanks to everyone for the ongoing opportunities! Please see more new #architecturephotos from these two projects, as well as other #photography from the summer on my website: http://subtlelightphoto.com #SeattleArchitecturalPhotographer #interiorphotography #SeattleInteriorPhotography

Using #Video for #Marketing #Architecture.

Using #video to showcase objects that don't move, like #architecture, has always been a bit tricky. But techniques like #timelapse, and new formats like cinemagraphs, help add life and #motion to otherwise static subjects.

It's been a challenge exploring this new aspect of #architecturalphotography and I'm looking forward to exploring it further with my clients and partners. Please inquire to discuss a #video or multimedia project for your #architecture, #construction, or #engineering firm in the #Seattle area or elsewhere. Thanks for having a look.

I'm always happy to discuss and write about the importance of #copyright to independent #creatives and #freelancers including #photographers.

Contrary to public perception, for every Getty, Universal, Viacom, or Disney, there are literally tens of thousands of individual, #smallbusiness #creators who rely on the provisions and power of copyright law to earn their livings from practicing their arts and crafts with their words, designs, #photographs, paintings, software code, music compositions, and/or video games. I am one of those small businesses and #copyright is what allows me to earn my living.

For my clients, it is not a trap, or an inconvenience, or a restriction, or anything weird and strange. What they see is merely a licensing agreement like the cell phone service they rely on, the software they use every day, or the music they stream into their headphones. That's all.

Thanks to @copyrightalliance @copyright4u for the work that they do.

Since I’ve been paying attention to the fast-moving developments surrounding Unmanned Aerial Systems – #UAS or #UAV (-ehicles), more commonly called #drones — I wanted to know what other #photographers are thinking about the current state of #dronephotography and how it’s impacting their business, good or bad. I sent five questions to two other photographers who are using #drones for #aerialphotography and asked their opinions, then I answered my own questions too from the perspective of a #drone skeptic. The whole thing was written up for a guest blog post on the APA/EP website and the full-length Q&A, along with some photos from the three of us, can be found here.

Spoiler alert — I’m still a drone skeptic 😉

I'm proud to currently be a featured interview on the Copyright Alliance blog http://copyrightalliance.org/ca_post/5-questions-individual-creator-members-buchanan

For those not familiar, the Copyright Alliance describes itself as "The Unified Voice of the Copyright Community."

Anyone who's associated with #photography or who earns a living by creating, and who’s not already familiar with the Copyright Alliance, should be. If you’d like more information on #copyright law, how the process works, how to register your works, how to enforce your rights, important past #copyright legal decisions, finding a #copyright #lawyer, or most any other facet of #copyright, try their Education, Resources, or Copyright Law pages.

This organization is doing great work on behalf of all of us who rely on this very important aspect of the law which allows us to earn our livings. Thanks.
