So in the land of the free you are legally shackled to big utility corporations.

Yeah that sounds free...
Robin Speronis lives off the grid in Florida, completely independent of the city’s water and electric system. A few weeks ago, officials ruled her off-grid home illegal. Officials cited the International Property Maintenance Code, which mandates that homes be connected to an electricity grid and a running water source. That’s like saying our dependency on corporations […]

Florida, isn't that where Jeb Bush is Governor? Says everything about the hipocrisy of the US and Republicanism.

Well, that's told us what's wrong the rentier capitalist, what's the answer? The first answer is to write off the Greek debt, invest in public services and make sure that corporate tax is paid. I think a man called Marx had some interesting thoughts on this.

Since emotions and psychological triggers influence purchasing behavior, pricing pages should meet those needs. Here's how.

An interesting analysis, not sure it is totally right but it is certainly right in that things have fundamentally changed. The reaction of the Labour Party in now all important, they can't assume that the Labour voting heartlands of the central belt and cities will return to the fold. The Labour Party now need to distance themselves from the idea that they are 'part of the establishment' they need to forment a radical idea of federalism that enables people to take an active part in the political process, to concentrate the decision making power of everyday life in the hands of people in localities.
The people of Scotland showed that the centralisation of power started by Thatcher and maintained and consolidated by all governments thereafter is not in the interests of the many rather it coats the few with an arrogance and disregard. The solution however is not replicating the power structures of Westminster at a local or regional level, the answer needs to be more radical, there needs to be a degree of thought and consultation, engagement even. If the United Kingdom is to hold together then it needs to be dismantled and reconstructed in a way the reflects the new century, one in which power and wealth are a means to an end rather than the end itself.

Why is territorial integrity and national sovereignty of a country always an overriding concern, far more important than an election, the will of the people or the prevention of human suffering? And why are the sheep-like populace of western nations so quick to repeat what the leaders they dislike, the corporations that exploit them and the media they admit they don't trust tell them to think?

Nationalism (and religion) are the drugs that keep the population of any defined power structure together. The human condition needs to 'belong' and therefore does when a 'link' is pointed out to a group. The link can be environmental, physical or language based (+ many other variations on these themes). The human condition also needs to believe that, while they strive to control all the variables of life, there is a greater power that takes ultimate responsibility for things that people don't understand. This in turn means that a group or an individual can 'blame' someone else for their misfortune.
