One of the (many) fun aspects of going through The Arcanum experience is the great community interaction. As part of the initial Cohort I went though, +Ollie Dale created achievement badges for everyone. This is one of my favourites... Those who have seen me shirtless will feel its quite a good likeness...

I finally got to watch and I loved the show. I don't think I can compare it really to the former competition style. The thing I enjoyed here is the getting familiar with how these masters critique and getting to know Les a little more. It's an enjoyable video to watch. I think I received several valuable tips and insights in this format.

The NEW Creation Wars Update 1
Hey all, thanks for the feedback submitted during and after the last show. The volume and quality feedback truly exceeded our expectations... which is hard because we already expect a lot from you awesome people :D

One of the first changes to the show which will be obvious to you from the next episode is a bigger focus on  critiquing images you guys submit in this community. So... get submitting via the "Critique My Image" section over there on the left!

(Side Note: The higher res the better, and if you enable downloads even better still... but really any image in any size is fine... we're not picky :D )

Back in November/December I took two trips to Skye for photography purposes. Near the end of trip 2, as I was chasing sunset at a particular location I looked back the way I had come from and saw what I thought was a decent view. I pulled over, set up quickly, snapped a set of images and then moved on knowing I was already struggling for time.
When processing the shots from the day I just couldn't seem to get anything worthwhile from the scene though. It just didn't feel right. So it was put to the side.

Earlier through a set of events I found myself looking at the raw image again, but with an idea in mind. So i spent the next little while working on it... and I have to say I feel pretty pleased with the result.

The crop feels right (before i just couldn't find it) and I am surprised by the feel. Previously I thought it HAD to be in colour due to the lovely gold of the sunset but it turns out it doesn't need that.

So here it is, Uig on Skye as a storm rolled through at sunset...

Looks great to me! I'm in B&W mode this year for some reason so I am always throwing that layer on my images.

It is always good to revisit places when the conditions might be different. Often that can mean going in winter when previously you visited in summer... but sometimes all it takes is a week.

I took a very similar image to the one below last weekend, from the same vantage point but when passing yesterday the conditions were completely different and this version worked out much better... including the chance to have some fun with flares...

Thanks heaps for the critique guys. You highlighted all the things that were bugging me and I love that. Working on a better way to get consistent 'poses' when doing this kind of thing :) Again thanks and great show!

I captured several images from this location over a period of about 30 minutes, just wandering around trying to find one that felt right... that was after I had to go back to the car and grab the remote and polarizing filter I had left behind... so forgetful in my old age! The rest may never see the light of day but at least one hit the mark. A reminder to myself to keep trying new takes on the same image... you never know which will end up being the shot that works. Maybe the first, maybe even the last... or maybe the one you take next time.

Getting the itch to head back here now the season has changed... this was a stormy, cold, early December nearing sunset.

Today is a day all about goals... defining them and helping others work on theirs...should be awesome.

For the image attached my goal was simple, to capture the stillness of the pool with the power of the river... textures and layers were an added bonus.
