Hmm, well, I don't think things like rape are particularly related to religion and I don't think women covering up makes a lot of difference. If you check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rape_statistics
you will see that reported stats show that Muslim countries are not remarkable when it comes to rape. It's pretty clear that some countries are not reporting their stats as I doubt that the low stats for say Mozambique are true for example. A few things to note "Yemen law does not recognize marital rape" (they last reported 0.8, unlikely I think). I recommend reading the notes as they make interesting reading. I'll also pick out Australia who are fairly strict about this sort of thing and who report a relatively high rate but currently with a downward trend, Australia are more likely to report accurately about this sort of thing than some other countries who would rather bury it in shame or denial. I'll also pick out Pakistan who seem to be in denial according to their note. There has been a lot of reporting in the UK recently about Pakistani gangs grooming young girls and either raping them themselves or drugging them and making them available for sex/rape for money. Some might dispute this but the evidence appears overwhelming and is backed by many years of observation from people in the relevant communities, workers and even some Imams just in case "Kufar propaganda" accusations start to appear here, anticipated from past experience.
It's better to recognise things like rape, confront the problem and do something about it than try and pretend it's not happening.
You may want to look at studies about sexual activity in other strict religious communities who exercise modesty in their dress code for women. You may conclude that dressing very modestly doesn't really work, people just think it does because it sort of makes sense that it ought to.
There are good people, bad people and everything in-between. Religion can be used and abused just like many other institutions for which on balance the Muslim religion is probably no better or worse than any other in the long run.
