Things you don't want to see when you remove the engine cover on your bike, part 1. This explains why the battery isn't charging - the alternator has started to fall apart! Plus there's the remains of a spring washer that might well be very important. Still goes though! #mz

It turns out it's the commutator rings, and they're a consumable (and I have a hope in hell of fixing it!).  Although I managed to mess up the clutch somehow, just by re-routing the clutch cable...

If anyone wants any motivation to take part in Movember next year, just read this article!

It really pisses me off.  Movember raises a massive amount of money each year for research into a serious problem that affects all men, culturally mustachioed or not, not to mention generally raising awareness about something men are normally reticent to talk about.

To claim that it's culturally insensitive or even racist is insane and hypocritical.  If Indian, Kurdish or Mexican men were to have a month of shaving off their moustaches for charity, would it be insensitive to (white)  normally clean shaved men?  No.  Also, why is our cultural standpoint on moustaches not relevant?  They're unfashionable, that's all.  Fashion is fickle at the best of times.  Would using tartan, or Indian or Mexican or Kurdish inspired patterns (that often have religious or deep cultural meaning) for clothing be culturally insensitive to Scottish or Indian or Kurdish or Mexican heritage?  No.  Not at all.  In fact, Movember is gaining enough traction that moustaches may well become fashionable again!  It'll only take a couple of pretentious fashion shows, then imbeciles who need to be told how to look and what to wear the world over will start sporting them.

And the notion that it's sexist is just as equally as insultingly stupid, not least to women.  I know plenty of women who've run Race for Life in aid of breast cancer research and awareness (and look at the good that's done), and not many men.  Yes, growing a moustache is sexually exclusive.  So's lactating.  That's not sexist, is it?  Plenty of women help out and support Movember participants, making their contribution just as equal as any man's who runs a Race for Life.

Movember is a way to get people talking about a good thing, in a fun way.  Anyone who can manage to turn it into a cultural or sexist affront is simply losing their grip.

One of the Movember mantras is: “Real men, growing real moustaches, talking about real issues”. The slogan is as misguided as its campaign: Movember is divisive, gender normative, racist and ineffective against some very real health issues.

Thoroughly manly day of chopping things down, clearing the front garden, fetching a Xmas tree, fixing the alternator on my bike, and going for a ride. It's beer o'clock, officially.

I don't actually have an ego to feed. Nor have I ever really accomplished anything I'd ever consider bragging about. My band at uni played The Hobbit once. That's pretty cool.

I feel like this is a really under-rated and under-appreciated restaurant! We eat from here (too!) regularly, and are only disappointed by what we choose, not the cooking, ingredients or service. Staples are delicious - bhajis, naans, poppadoms&pickles, etc. Their biryanis are great. Curries are good and fairly varied, although not as hot as you might expect. The staff are keen to get you try new things (especially the sweets!). Prices are fair, and the staff are friendly and helpful. On the downside, the decor is pretty tired - it could do with a lick of paint and brightening up.

Fantastic decor, really lovely looking place (it was completely empty when I arrived, so looked very tidy!). Attentive staff, flexible with the choices. Starter was okay - the rice was slightly undercooked, but the sauce was good. Main of pasta and duck was delicious. The house wine wasn't dreadful, which was a really nice change from almost every Italian I've ever eaten in! Prices weren't unreasonable for the quality - good value for money.

Spent two nights here mid-week on business. Really friendly and accommodating staff (pun intended), efficient with the little things, like providing an iron, and cutting me a new key when I managed to lock myself out! Room was comfy and clean, and quiet, even though the hotel was relatively busy. Breakfast was good, with a good variation.
