One year warranty inspection, disconnected duct from bathroom exhaust fan.  It's that metallic-looking thing slumped over the 2x4.

Inspections are important in new homes, and it's important to access the attic every time.

To piggyback off of yesterday's photo, here's another improper terminal for bathroom exhaust fans. They should never be directed to roof vents, because there is no backdraft damper. The connections usually aren't airtight either.

Just classic. I see that here quite often.

That is some nice DIY technique there.

This is a perfectly round sink with the drain right in the middle.  Does anyone know what the problem with this design is?

Here's a new (improper) use for spray foam that we haven't seen before.

Leaking condensate from the AC drained down into the blower compartment.  About a gallon or two spilled out when we opened the blower compartment door.

What do you see inside this kitchen hood, other than a missing shroud for the fan?
This is a new construction, high-end home, by the way.

The lower portion of that thing at the roof is the flashing kit for a plumbing vent, and the upper portion of it is a vent and cap for gas appliance, such as a furnace or water heater. None of this stuff is supposed to be used to vent a bathroom exhaust fan. Bath fans are supposed to be vented to a short dampered terminal.
The good news is that we found where the bath fan vented to.

Asphalt roofing shingles dominate our market, yet another kind of roof has been slowly gaining steam over the past several years - metal.

Vertical baseboard heater installed with smurf-tube, that corrugated blue stuff used for low-voltage wiring.
Wrong and wrong.

Ask for George! I was fortunate/unfortunate enough to use Structure Tech for 2 home inspections. The first home was a disaster and way too much work for me to take on. I had much better luck with the second home inspection! I can not say enough good things about George Ury - he was so knowledgeable and thorough!

Great company, great results, great customer service! I was able to work with StructureTech for two home inspections during my house hunt. They were very easy to work with and I would highly recommend them! They were easy to schedule with and were upfront about their availability. I found it valuable to contact them as soon as I was considering making an offer, so that I could ensure an inspection would be booked within my diligence period. The inspector I worked with, George, was very knowledgeable, thorough and friendly. I was present for the entirety of both inspections with George and I really appreciated his willingness to talk through findings with me while he was reviewing. It was very educational for me. I'm happy that I was able to work with George on the second home inspection too! The documentation provided by StructureTech post-inspection is excellent. It is thorough, clear, and comes with photographs and diagrams included when necessary. This kind of information clearly presented allows for home buyers to fully understand the information and make educated decisions about whether or not to move forward with a home purchase. Also, check out their blog on the website/Facebook for great tips about your home! I would highly recommend StructureTech to anyone in the Twin Cities needing a home inspection. I look forward to working with StructureTech again for my next home purchase.

I was with the inspectors as they were inspecting the house. they were very thorough in their inspection and explained every test that they were doing. The Inspection report was very well written with lots of pictures, links with more information and their recommendations. I had a great experience and would highly recommend them.

Recently used Structure Tech for a home inspection. I met Patrick for an afternoon inspection and I was very pleased with how thorough and detail oriented he was. He did his job well while being extremely courteous, willing to explain and answer every question I had. The report was promptly completed the same evening with plenty of explanations and recommendations for us. I would definitely recommend Patrick and Structure Tech to friends.

George inspected a home this morning that my wife and I are buying. He was awesome, he took his time and knew what he was doing. He went above and beyond his responsibilities. I will most certainly recommend him anytime I hear someone is buying a home. I'm very happy structure tech because I have a clear idea of how I need to adjust my offer tomorrow. Thank you!

Reuben conducted the recent inspection of our home and did a great job. He was friendly and very knowledgeable. He caught multiple things that the city's truth in housing missed and we felt very confident with our purchase after seeing his report.

Barry and Wayne are excellent inspectors, and Lisa in the office is outstanding! They are all very responsive, honest, and knowledgable! They've done over 50 inspections for us on behalf of our relocation clients, and we highly recommend them!

We had Structure Tech inspect the home that we are in the process of purchasing. Duane was very thorough and took the time to answer all of my questions and concerns about the house. I am very happy with the report that was provided and feel confident in our decision to buy the home now that Duane and Structure Tech have given their feedback. I would recommend Structure Tech to anyone looking to buy a home.
