Cheers to Salon for recognizing all the awesome craft breweries (including yours truly) focused on sustainability by getting creative with uses for spent grain.
There are more breweries in the U.S. now than ever. Our grain byproduct problem isn't going to solve itself

With beer sales flat and more breweries that means liberating some of that pie from the producers of yellow fizzy water some of which use rice heavily in their production. Also I think the overall average ABV has been going up for years, the only way to get more ABV is use more grain. So I think the amount of spent grain is rising.

In general animals love the stuff, it's already malted so it's packed full of sugar (even if you have fully utilized the grain there's still up to 20% of it's original starch that hasn't been converted plus some residual sugars that just won't wash) It can be made into livestock feed or dog biscuits, makes a great addition to compost, fish food, if processed a little further to remove the sugars it could be used in industrial applications that use a lot of cellulose or sawdust like for making packing material or particle boards or paper.

Good atmosphere, good food, good beer. The parking is ample, and it was a little chilly inside, but this seems like a great place for group dinners or casual outings.

I was there on Thursday July 14th, 2016 with my parents and boyfriend. The server was nice and the environment and beer is great! However, the food quality was very poor! I was very excited the day before whenvi had looked at the Menu and to be served the entrees that they served all 4 of us was very Disappointing! The Peruvian Chicken was tasteless, my grilled cheese was so bad that I had to leave half of it behind. My father's Fun Lamb was so bad that my father kept having to drink water to swallow his food. My mother's ribs were yucky and dry. I am very sorry but Stone please don't market yourself as Zagat rated , Gastro Pub and world class with an Executive Chef and then deliver poor quality food! How can you mislead people like that? People please only order their Beer and go eat somewhere else!

Let me put it this way, before the end, this place has probably 3 stars, meaning that this was a place that I would be willing to come back to. However, It's now a 0.5 stars. So I'll start from the beginning. I first came here hoping for an amazing beer experience. I really do enjoy the Stone collection of brews. But they were in the middle of construction, and some of their dining areas were down. So we were only able to get a "cocktail table," meaning that we were only able to get drinks and appetizers. But we didn't know this until we sat down, the laady who greeted us at the door said that we were able to get full service at any of the tables, we just had to find one. (In the cocktail section, everything is a free-for-all.) So we ended up blowing like $90 in drinks and some over-priced appetizers, which were pretty decent. On top of that the waiter was all about "making sure the customer is taken care of." No, for real. That's exactly what he told us, and yet it took forgiver to get our drinks, and even longer to get our "food", and I probably would have died before we got our check. During all of this, we were suggested by our waiter to check some of the outside areas, because they were able to serve entree food at all of the tables. We went outside to find a waiter who, also, confirmed that it was okay to do so. Awesome. Wait, but it gets worse! I go up to the bar to order the food, but the bartender, at that point, decides that he couldn't serve us, because we weren't going to eat the food at the bar itself. This is hella confusing. I know. You're probably not following my train of thought at all. The point is... the service here blows. No one here can get their story straight as to how the customer should be served. Wait, but it gets obnoxious!! So then we figured that we could go to a brewery and not get some drinks to go. my friend ends up buying it. But then ZZ Top decides that he needed to card all members of the party, before allowing us to purchase. Are you serious? My armpit hair is more seasoned than that hobo beard of his. If you were going to card me, you should have done it at the door when your matradee gave us the wrong information about where we could sit for proper service. Not when I'm tipped with beer, still drinking a beer, standing next to my best friend...who's buying the beer. So that wasn't the bad part, the obnoxious part was him staring at me blankly after my response to him, "....*staring at me like I'm an idiot*....Yeah...but...I still need to see...some...ID." After I leave to go get my ID, ZZ Top then says to my brother, "It's just policy." OK, that's cool. But ZZ, you should have told me that instead of treating me like your kid, who you never pay child support for. Did I get my point across? I hope so. Am I over-reacting? Probably. Do I really care? I don't, but the managers of Stone Brewery should. Retrain your staff.

Took the tour and tasting. Very clean location and a must visit for any beer nut. The tour was a bit short and lacked some of the fun stories that I have heard from other tours, but it was informative and the hosts were gracious and provided lots of good advice. We did not have an opportunity to visit the restaurant, but it looked fabulous and a great place to share a meal.

I surprised my husband last night by taking him here. He's an absolute fan of stone beer. The food was amazing.. absolutely amazing. We had the pretzels and cheese, plus the cheese soup. He got the duck tacos (great) and I had the Peruvian chicken. Everything was absolutely delicious. And our server was absolutely the sweetest. We had reservations for 8:15 [sitting outside while the sun is setting in their garden as very pleasant] There where a lot of people, and I hate crowds but sitting outside and the landscape broke it up and still made the evening very nice. Can't wait to come back In a few months. It's kind of pricey but the experience was well worth it.

This is a little paradise!! Of course, the beer is good, there is so much choice! But the terasse is gigantic, very nice, especially during the evening. The food is good, price is affordable. For dessert, try the brownies sunday, it's delicious! Seriously, a place to visit, a must see, drink and eat, if you are like me and you're not from the region.

Not disappointed! We took the tour (our guide was funny and the tour informative-and of course-the samples afterwards were great). Had lunch in the restaurant as well. Food and beer were great as was the service! Highly recommended if you are a fan of craft beer and live in or visit SD.

We love brewery tours and this was a must when we were in California. The building looks like a modern business building, not a restaurant/brewery, so don't let that throw you. I'm not a fan of the more hoppy beers, but I was able to find a few that I liked. The tour guide was awesome, friendly and informative. You get to keep a small souvenir tasting glass at the end of the tour. After the tour we stayed for lunch and it was amazing! We actually returned a few days later, before we left California, to get lunch again. My boyfriend got a chicken meal (like chicken picatta) and it was awesome - one of the best meals we've ever tasted. I tried the beef brisket and again it was just wonderful. I definitely recommend the brewery tour followed by a meal at the restaurant. The tour itself was cheap ($3 I believe), but the food is a little pricey at the restaurant. However, in my opinion, it was well worth the money. Visited July 2014
