Charnwood C-Four Defra approved wood stove we installed in a two storey Victorian terrace in Shepherd’s Bush, West London.

The opening and hearth were already the perfect size so it didn’t need any knocking out or construction work. All in all a straightforward job. Check out the printed chimney pots and view of the Westfield shopping centre from the roof.

Here’s one of our Morso Badger 3142 Convector Defra approved multifuel stove installs.

The installation was for a new rear extension in an old London cottage. There was no existing chimney so we needed to run a new twin wall flue system, stepping out to avoid a steel RSJ then running up over the roof line.

We also needed to swing left to avoid the wooden sash windows and keep the required distance to combustible materials.

This is a Charnwood C-Five Defra approved wood stove we installed in a two storey Victorian terrace in Islington.

We removed the metal fireplace insert but kept the marble mantelpiece and the client chose to keep the white tiled hearth.

The flue channel was too narrow for a top flue exit with a straight flue pipe and the hearth was too short for a rear flue exit so we used the top flue exit with two matt black 30˚ vitreous enamel bends from Schiedel to kick back into the chimney. Detail can be seen in the following photos.

This is a Charnwood C-Four Defra approved wood burning stove we fitted in a house in Forest Hill, South East London.

The chimney breast was intact but had been bricked over. We knocked it out only to find it had a raised concrete hearth inside and the original height of the opening was too low for the wood stove.

We knocked out the raised hearth back to floor level using a Kangol breaker and fitted a new concrete lintel higher than the original, then rendered the insides of the opening and plastered the front of the chimney breast over our new work.

To add to this we found the top of the chimney had been capped with thick concrete that we had to cut away with an angle grinder like layers of a cake.

The job took longer than planned but we got it done to a good result and a happy client.

DG Keld High 5kW Defra approved wood stove we fitted in a family home in Hornsey, North London. The client had already bought the stove and had the insides of their opening rendered, so we just supplied a custom made T shaped slate hearth along with the flexible flue system, installed it all and signed it off with HETAS and Building Control.

This is a Jetmaster 18F Defra approved multifuel stove we installed in an existing fireplace in a house in North West London. The client was keen to keep the original mantelpiece and hearth so they chose this stove to fit with what they had.

The flue channel was too narrow for the stove with a straight top flue exit and the hearth was too short for a rear flue exit, so we made a good workaround by using two mitred 45˚ vitreous enamel flue bends from Poujoulat. Detail can be seen on the following photos.

Here's one of our jobs from yesterday: a Charnwood C-Four Defra approved log burner we installed in a Victorian terrace in Homerton, East London.

The flue channel was too narrow for a vertical flue so we used Charnwood's vertical rear flue adaptor to connect the pipe to the liner.

Here's a Burley Hollywell 9105 Defra approved wood burning stove we installed last Friday.

We removed the mantle and the old open fireplace, rendered the insides of the opening and levelled the floor inline with the front stone hearth. Then we lined with chimney with 150mm diameter flexible flue liner and topped it off with a pot hanger and cowl.

Here's a Hunter Herald 8 multifuel boiler stove we fitted in Surrey a few months ago.

The new Hunter stove was a replacement for an old ESSE V series inset boiler stove that’d been installed around 40 years ago. Great build quality on the old ESSE - it lasted a fair old time before it finally gave up the ghost.

When we removed the old stove we found it’d been fitted without a chimney liner, register plate or even any flue pipe. The original installers had simply slotted the stove into place then filled the sides with rubble and sealed it at the front with fire rope. Might have been normal back in the day but it didn’t even nearly meet modern building regulations.

Our new install meets all regs and best practice. It has a nice straight length of matt black vitreous enamel flue pipe leading into a 150mm diameter 904 grade liner. We also reopened the fireplace to the original size, fitted a smart new black register plate and finished it off with some tidy plastering around the breast.

Three days well spent and our client has their wood fired central heating back on track. Good to go for at least another 40 years.

Here's a 5kW ESSE100 DD multifuel stove we installed in a terraced Victorian townhouse in Islington, North London. This is the SE model of the ESSE 100 stove, making it Defra approved for smoke controlled areas.

We’d love to take credit for the black and white tiled hearth too but this was fitted by the main contractor.
