An older, but still relevant, post on how the nuances of language can influences users to act as you wish:

As the forcefulness and personal identifiability of the phrase increased, the number of clicks likewise increased. "You" identifies the reader directly, "should" implies an obligation, and "follow me on twitter" is a direct command. Moving the link to a literal callout "here" provides a clear location for clicking. I tried other permutations that dulled the command, used the word "please" in place of "should" and made the whole sentence a link. None of them performed as well as the final sentence.
Ramblings from a user interface designer and amateur neuroscientist.

I received another email this week from Meghann, a junior UX designer, who wrote me asking whether pursuing a master's in HCI would help her get better job opportunities or a higher salary. I told her...

"Recently, when working with a development team that didn’t have well-defined user stories that would allow them to define priorities or the scope of each iteration of the project, I volunteered to write the user stories myself. Having a clear vision and requirements are essential prerequisites to doing effective UX design, especially when working on a tight schedule. Whenever these are lacking on a project, I do whatever I can to bring clarity, even if it means that I need to take a greater role in requirements definition than a UX professional typically would." - Pabini Gabriel-Petit

One thing I really like about working at Opower is that I work very closely with the Director of Product and the Product Manager for my scrum team. I get to take an early and active role in requirements definition, which means I gain clarity on the primary UX concerns and am better prepared to advocate for those concerns and make recommendations to my engineering team during the development cycle.

Be sure to read the rest of the article if you're dealing with closing gaps between development and UX.

It's been awhile, but I wrote something.
The most important lesson I learned this past year is that when I don't understand something, I need to ask questions. I've found that overcoming any embarrassment, shame, pride, or ego, and pushing m...

Nothing posted to me is cross-listed in my Posts stream, unless I wrote it and made it visible to you. Have you checked out the 'View profile as...' box on your main profile page? That helps a lot with figuring out who sees what confusions.

There's currently an opportunity for creating a better way to help people play pickup games—one that brings together people who typically play pickup anyway, and who would play more often if knowing a...

I wrote a piece rethinking conventional morality and free will, in which I explain how a middle-aged, married, school teacher can become a pedophile without having moral failings, and a homeless man deserves to be on a street corner no more than I deserve to be in my warm bed at night, with a paycheck, made out by an accounting office at a tech startup that I work at, being regularly electronically deposited into my bank account, and why we are all just acting the only way we know how, given the circumstances before us.

Maybe streamlined is the wrong word, but if google's going to do something, they tend to do it better than the competition.

I added 84 people to my circles. But only 38 people have me in their circles. Relationships are not 1:1 like they are on facebook. It's more like Twitter, where you can follow/circle anybody you like.
