Fascinating way to look at the topic of authenticity:

Let's face it: celebrity wins in American culture. We're obsessed - it's what we strive for. Often, it's hard to discern what's real about celebrities versus what has been told to us to get us to "buy in".

JLawr spent a good chunk of the last year or so defining "authenticity" in celebrity. She bucked the system with "humility", clumsiness, and a love for food, unlike the polished, almost robot-like perception we are normally given of celebrity.

After awhile, however, Lauren Duca (the author of this post) says, Jennifer Lawrence's persona seems to be more of a publicity stunt than truth, which can make us question authenticity even more.

Duca uses the example of Anna Kendrick as a star who actually embodies her authentic self, citing not only Kendrick's words, but her body language (strong eye contact, air of confidence) as her reason for believing in Kendrick's humble authentic self.

What do you think? Is it possible to be in the spotlight and still be true to oneself? Is it always an act at that point? How can a celebrity get us to truly believe in his/her authentic self? Let's get a discussion going!             #authenticity
