I finally upgraded my Macbook Pro 2011 with an SSD Drive (Crucial M550, 512gb).  Physical install was easy enough, and I did a restore of the system using a Time Machine backup.  Woke up and the system was mostly where I left it (though oddly, my xcode projects didn't restore and looks like they weren't saved in Time Machine... huh).  Overall, things feel a lot more snappy, and I think this will be an investment that pays off big in getting more time to work.  Very excited!

That's absolutely true. I'm not in the habit of turning my laptop off ever though, usually I just put it to sleep (probably a bad habit!).

Very Nice: Simon Peyton Jones has posted a complete copy of his book "The Implementation of Functional Programming Languages" !
The Implementation of Functional Programming Languages. Simon Peyton Jones, published by Prentice Hall, 1987. My 1987 book is now out of print, but it is now available online in its entirety. I owe a massive debt of thanks to Marnie Montgomery (marniem@patriot.net), who made this possible.

Very excited to learn my talk on Pink and Score was accepted for the upcoming Clojure/Conj! http://www.clojure-conj.org/ Many thanks to Cognitect and I look forward to the conference!

Also, I'll be giving presentations at the International Computer Music Conference (http://www.icmc14-smc14.net/) as well as JavaOne (https://www.oracle.com/javaone/index.html). If you're attending any of these conferences (or happen to live in Athens, San Francisco, or DC), it would be great to see you there!

I've been a big fan of basing projects on the JVM since I first started programming in 2000.  It's been amazing to see the evolution of changes over time, and watching this video today has only increased my enthusiasm.  The parts about Nashorn and MLVM were particularly interesting to me.

P.S. The new functional coding stuff coming up in Java 8 looks great! (I'm looking very forward to streams!)

I stayed here about 7 weeks while doing an internship at CMU. The apartment was charming, clean, and kept up very well. The location was convenient (Giant Eagle, short walk over to Coffee Tree Roasters on Walnut St.), and I could walk or take the CMU bus easily to campus. I thought the rent was very fair considering there was regular cleaning of the apartments. Enjoyed my stay and would consider again if I ever end up in Pittsburgh for another short term stay!
