Brent's story focuses on the "wilderness years" of Steve Jobs. As someone who has his own cache of Steve interviews (fortunately, they're not "lost"!) I really enjoyed this story, particularly because the tapes deal with that fascinating middle period.

Check out the sidebar as well. Steve tells Brent that he believes in "marathon" efforts that span six or seven years. Jeff Bezos said pretty much the same thing to me in an interview we did for Wired last year.

nice article. moral of the story - make mistakes, learn from them and be driven towards excellence.

Appropriately, I "printed" this article and sent it to my Kindle app on my iPhone 4s where it showed up complete with color illustrations. Magic.

Steven, you should write a book about all the misinformation , fear mongering and what not about Google. I'm a big fan of yours and now that Google has grown their business model just kills and distrupts every other business model out there. Now it's gov. and corporations that are scared trying to slow down innovation. Sorry to go off topic. You the man!

Really enjoyed reading this article. Great.
