Web Index Crawlers vs. Fact Extraction Crawlers

Google crawls and indexes pages on the Web. With Google's knowledge panel, they also crawl and index objects on the Web. It's as if there's been a parallel process at Google for over a decade (which is around as long as Q&A results have been around).

A newly granted patent from Google has a fact extraction crawler (janitors) looking at anchor text in links to pages about entities to learn new names for those entities. With these "janitors" or fact extraction crawlers looking at something that web indexing crawlers usually only looked at, it seems like the two separate crawling approaches are meeting in the middle.

This is the first part of this post, and the second part will focus more on how other names for an entity are identified using anchor text.
Google's fact extraction approach to Indexing entities and facts on the web may be mining anchor text for names for entities.

Never expected this. Thanks to all of you who've help spread the word!

So what's the story and why am I sharing this animated Gif?

Short Background:

I love Google Plus! I've been on the network since October 2012 when I first launched +Google Plus For You which was originally called +Google Plus Cover Photo and Profile Image Size (hope you get why I changed that..!). But since joining Google Plus I've actually never really maintained my own personal profile.

There were several reasons for that, but to keep this section short as promised - I'll just say that it was mainly due to time management priorities. Checking out the 'about' tab above will reveal that I'm a full time freelancer in the motion graphics field (which basically means I created all sorts of animated explainer / promotion videos and such), which is the reason I had to prioritize my time between 'real life work' and my enthusiasm for social media and Google in particular.

The Plus Editor

Just over 2 months ago I released +The Plus Editor  which is basically a simple text editor that allows you to type text just as you would in Google Docs (or Word if you still use that?), add Bold, Italic, Strikethrough and even some cool symbols such as ★♣♫♥. Once you're done with that - hitting the Convert button & Copy Pasting into Google Plus, will result in a beautifully formatted Google+ post! :)

Based on your feedback and the amount of Shares, +1 and Comments +The Plus Editor received, it's apparent that many people found this tool useful, and and I'm extremely happy about that! But, I have a strong feeling that none of this would have happened without the help of some top contributors who've helped share my original post (http://bit.ly/1t90G1P), and then my most recent version 2.0 update post (http://bit.ly/TJKTfz).

I don't want to (and I seriously hope I don't) sound too dramatic here, but I just wanted to send out a big thanks to a few of the people who've helped spread the word about +The Plus Editor

Thanks a lot!

+Mark Traphagen +Laurie S Hurley +Christine DeGraff +Visnja Zeljeznjak +Gill Andrews +Ben Capelo +Thomas Quintana +martin shervington +Rick Eliason +Jörg-Peter Rabanus  +elizabeth obih-frank +Krishna De +Sue Worthington +Torben Colding +Peg Fitzpatrick +Ronnie Bincer +Daryl Hunt +Carol Dodsley  +Jeffrey Lapin +Christina Warren +Mike Smuts +Kiomi Moore +Ian Anderson Gray +Stephan Hovnanian  +Ognian Mladenov +Michelle Bollinger +Dennis Seymour

I honestly hope I didn't forget anyone!! Be sure to check out these people and add them to your circles, it's well worth it!

And last but not least - the Animated Gif!

If you've read up to here and still can't figure out how the animated Gif is related to any of this, here's the answer. The below graph was created using the excellent tool by +CircleCount (http://bit.ly/1kfhFPC) that allows you to analyze the amount of +1's, Shares, Comments and Followers to your Google+ profile or page. This specific graph represents the activity on my personal Google+ profile, and is actually the reason and what inspired me to write this post and thank the people above.

How Big Are the Major Social Networks?

Great collection of the most recent data from each network: http://www.thesocialmediahat.com/active-users from +The Social Media Hat. I'm impressed to see Google+'s growth and surprised that LinkedIn isn't more popular.

3rd Party Pinterest Analytic Firms You Should Watch Closely
http://www.business2community.com/pinterest/3rd-party-pinterest-analytic-firms-watch-closely-0894053#!Q4y2f

Pinterest has been making jaw dropping headlines lately. This social ecommerce site has recently announced that it has raised a $200 million investment that values it at $5 billion, making this powerful social site one of the most valuable venture-capital backed start-ups in the world.

On May 12th they officially announced that they will start to make money with ads called Promoted Pins working with 12 US major brands. They promise these commercial pins will be; tasteful, transparent and relevant. They have made improvements on past commercial experiences based on all of our collective feedback. Their stated goal is to ensure that Pinterest continues to be a great experience for everyone and I believe they will because they have always protected the users experience from day one.

These 12 advertisers are asked to spend a whopping $1 to $2 million on advertising. The CPM (cost per thousand impressions) rate for the ads is in the $30 to $40 range. What’s this telling you? These brands must be confident that Pinterest can drive massive engagement & web
traffic/sales… enough to provide them with a very substantial return on investment.

As of April 2014, over 70 million Pinterest users had uploaded more than 30 billion pins and created 750 million boards and that 30 billion marked a near 50% increase from only 6 months before.

For the first time Pinterest is opening up a business insights API, allowing third-party developers who build software for marketers to tap into it’s intelligence about how pins are performing across its network of 30 billion and counting. (API stands for application-programming interface and is a set of rules that allows third parties to interact with platforms and services.)  Those participating include:

+Salesforce Marketing Cloud
+HootSuite
+Spredfast
+Percolate
+Piqora
+Curalate
+Tailwind

3rd party software and marketing companies are going to be offering us more and more insights because of the API access.  This will help all our businesses learn....

We had some documentation which was required for our WH & S and Kylie and the team helped us out. Initially I was completely confused by it all but Kylie explained everything to us and made the process seem simple. Service was prompt and I would definately recommend Worklaw to anyone who required help with their WHS.

I dropped in here for lunch with a business contact and the overall service and food was outstanding. If you are having lunch then the carbonara is well worth it. Further to this, there was an issue with the bank payment, for some reason my bank double charged me and I rang Delizioso, the service they showed was great, they followed up and made sure that everything was sorted out. It turned out to be a bank issue and not their fault at all but still I was very impressed with the way they tried to solve the problem. All in all very happy with the food and tremendous service.
