Spinning off from a comment by Xydexx - I used to rely on someone's bookshelves and music stacks to tell me about them. Damned difficult with epubs and mp3s.

Wow. How true!! I guess library thing or good reads and stuff like "favorite music lists" will ultimately replace those somewhat..... pinterest! There's a few people I don't really know who I feel almost like I do because they are such kindred spirits. :-)

The last two months I seem to have recovered my reading habit - 12 books in 8 weeks. Nearly half were off the to-be-read pile, and only a few new ones got bought.

I should write some reviews, that'll slow down the pace. But first, I gotta finish "Cloud Atlas."

Things found while cleaning up other things - a conversation between me and co-worker. For those who've not encountered my Out Of Context Quotes before, these are true stories stripped of the context. Sometimes context is removed to protect the participants, sometimes because it's funnier without the context. From 2009:

Steve: (walking down the hall carrying a mace)
Tom: "Where are you going with that?"
Steve: "A funeral."

Yes, I was really going to a funeral. No, neither the mace nor I had any involvement in the passing of the deceased.

There's a new comic book out there called "Loki, Agent of Asgard." I may have to buy this.

Read of the week for this week is Fortunately, The Milk, by Neil Gaiman & Skottie Young (illustrator). Yes, it is aimed at age 8-12. Funny thing, that's my granddaughter Caitlyn's age. Almost. But to read it to her properly, I have to be familiar enough with the text to do all the voices. Mind you, you can't really tell what the voices should be like from the text. For that you need Skottie Young's delightful drawings. Multiple and detailed viewings really help flesh out the voices. As a noble grandfather, I was willing to pre-throw myself on that grenade so as to enhance Caitlyn's experience and help make her a lifelong reader like her Mom. Stop making that face. Oh, just shut up and go away, why don't you. I'm gonna read it again, so neener neener. Because, you know, the milk. Fortunately.

Yesterday afternoon I was in Lowe's and bought flower seeds. I am such an optimist.

Should I have mentioned that there were little spits of snow coming down as I walked to the car, and the temperature prompted dropped into the low teens? Nah, that's pretty much what I expected from tempting fate like that.

Earlier I noted that last year we didn't even use one gallon of fuel for the snowblower but this year were already on our third. A few weeks ago I gave full superstitious thought to the idea of pre-emptively getting a fourth in hopes that the weather gods would then attempt to screw me by not giving us more snow.

Sunday I mixed up gallon four. Should have known....

This is a pretty good idea. For the TL;DR crowd, Brazil has developed a method to radically improve tax reporting by adding a bit of data to receipts at business types where tax compliance is otherwise difficult.

I stumbled across this today while looking up a subtlety about computer programming (lambda functions, if you must know):

"Religions are, for the most part, bad—but religion is not." - Kurt Gödel, as quoted by Hao Wang in A Logical Journey: From Gödel to Philosophy.

Dawkins quotes studies about the positive effects of religion people, however the ends do not justify the means.
