After announcing that the trail had gone cold for the Bangkok blast suspect, Thai police make an arrest while Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe stares down over a hundred thousand protesters. Plus Seoul calls for action from Japan on the Comfort Women issue, and Malaysian Prime Minister Najib faces calls for his resignation.

China mulls levying the death penalty against those using child prostitutes. Human Rights Watch’s Maya Wang joins the podcast discussing if that will be enough. Why is there angst among the United States allies in the South China Sea? Plus Obama rings up Shinzo Abe to discuss cyber crimes.

China considers the death penalty for child rape, angst in the South China Sea, and are fences mended between the US and Japan?

Another round of marathon talks conclude between North and South Korea with a deal reached to the end the tension. I’ve got the latest updates from the Peninsula. It was not a good day for Chinese markets. Key indices essentially gave back the year in one day. Plus after killing 15 in the Philippines, Typhoon Goni bears down on Japan.

This week on the podcast, we kick things off with a look at latest news from Tianjin, China. While the death toll hasn’t risen in a few days, that doesn’t mean there aren’t more fatalities in the wings and the cost of recovery could be staggering. Plus I take a look at Prime Minister Abe’s WWII address and give my thoughts on what it might mean for the region. Also in the podcast, the Milken Institute’s Curtis S Chin drops in to discuss the economic status of China. The Asia Brief includes updates from Bangkok, the Bangladesh blogger murders, how one Japanese employer killed an employee while her son watched and more.

More than 140 people lost their lives in the Tianjin chemical blast. Now China has detained 12. Piracy in Southeast Asia isn’t anything new, but there have been more attacks this year than in the past seven. Plus, on the eve of going to court on charges stemming from the Occupy Movement, Scholarism’s Joshua Wong faces new charges.

Thai authorities are struggling a week after the deadly blast in Bangkok to locate their prime suspect, prompting some to wonder if the individual in question might have fled the country.  Also in Thailand, some say the new charter draft is a huge step backwards. Plus one of Hong Kong’s icons is now in danger of disappearing.

Both Koreas went on their highest alerts possible last week, and as you can tell, we’re still here. While Greenpeace originally detected no harmful chemicals following the deadly Tianjin blast, that no longer appears to be the case. Plus China’s land reclamation efforts aren’t showing any signs of slowing down.

Monday evening, a reported pipe bomb exploded in the heart of Thailand. 19 people were killed and over 100 injured. What happened,  who is responsible, and what could have been the motives?

Fantastic place! I would love to be closer to this amazing location to film my weekly podcast... but alas it is just too far from Seoul! I hope I can get back to Japan and Tokyo to do something there in the future. Also, the staff is full of #Awesomesauce!
