What did you think of the programme we did at the +Blue Bell Inn?  We thought it was a great showcase for Halkyn Mountain.  Thank you +ITV Wales :D
In this episode: Andrew Price visits Wales’ first pub with its very own post office, The Bluebell Inn and embarks on a four-mile walk, taking in Halkyn Mountain Common. Hannah Thomas visits a new saltmarshbeing created on the northern edge of the Gower peninsula – the first of its kind in Wales. And Ruth Wignall discovers more about the conservation work being carried out to attract the beautiful Lapwing at Parc Slip Nature Reserve. For mor...

There be Pirates!  Arrrgh, Jim Lad!  Some fun with Andy Hickie and Ar Y Gweill this Thursday as we start Shanty Nights!  @ShantyUK  #nq

Andy Hickie is joined this month by North Wales newest buoy band - Ar Y Gweill who are are a great sounding quartet of songsters that specialise in close four-part harmonies of working, traditional and folk songs.  There will be plenty to enjoy and join in with.

Andy Hickie will be handing over the reins to Ar Y Gweill as he heads off to folkie festivals in the next month or two so the 4th Thursday in the month is transitioning from a pure folk night to more of a shanty / working songs night where you'll be introduced to the chorus to have some fun and join in.

Ar Y Gweill means literally "On the needles" in Welsh, or "Work in Progress" and the lads sing in Welsh and English and even Zulu!

partial eclipse of the sun
There's a solar eclipse on Friday, 20 March. Whilst we're too far south for totality, the moon will cover up to about 90% of the sun when viewed from the UK. There's an eclipse calculator that can be tailored for various UK locations at www.timeanddate.com/eclipse/in/uk. For Cardiff, for instance, partial eclipse begins at 08.23, reaches a maximum at 09.28, and it's all over at 10.38. Information about this and other solar and lunar eclipses is also available from Eclipses Online at the HM Nautical Almanac Office.

We are an independent, family run & multiple award winning freehouse enjoyed by real ale, whisky & cider drinkers, walkers, riders, cyclists, philosophers, writers, folk & jazz musicians, game players & locals alike. At 850 feet we are near the top of Halkyn Mountain with spectacular 70 mile views over the Dee & Mersey rivers to the distant Cumbrian mountains & Pennine hills. Looking forward to #spring? In the meteorological calendar, #winter ends on Saturday and spring starts on Sunday.

For many people, Spring in the astronomical calendar starts on the 20th March and is marked by the #equinox which is when day and night are of equal length.

Why do we define #seasons in different ways? Find out more at http://bit.ly/1BSvQE2

Some cracking music here this Saturday with Welcomme, Finnan & Chrimes and special guest Ben Robertson!

Frank Welcomme, John Finnan & Andy Chrimes grace the Blue this Saturday with their wonderful repertoire of fine songs, lovely instrumentals and entertaining stories.    To top all that they will be joined by special guest Ben Robertson whose fingerstyle guitar picking and singing is outstanding.

All for free barring a chance to win in a raffle to help fund the entertainment.

Engineers get stuff done!
Introduction
Steve Marquis,

I'm a people person and since people are at the heart of most problems, I'm also something of a problem solver!

I'm still a design/consulting engineer at heart, spent 30 years in IT/comms after a mech eng start, worked in virtually every industry, now retired to run a pub in the UKs NE Wales mountains. That pub is now the first pub in Wales to sport a Post Office Local over a bar!

Having bought product to market I'm using my marketing skills and IT abilities to promote the business via our website and social media. I'm a Google+ early adopter and keen to develop it's use for small business and share that experience with the wider community.

I've been reflecting on the above and it occurs to me that these days I am more of a conduit rather than a creative for original thinking, however, I do sometimes have my moments!
Bragging rights
I've been a hands-on Mechanical, Design, IT & Comms Consulting Engineer that when I've had the opportunity, project/programme manages, markets, sells and writes about it all too! I'm also a wannabe Permaculturist!
