I couldn't agree more. NFC will happen in North America and Western Europe if and when Apple decides it wants it to happen. NFC is fraught with just too much industry baggage, with multiple players who just can't get their fingers out of the pie. (The technology itself is solid.) Only Apple has the power to push those forces out of the way and make NFC work (in every conceivable aspect: business, partnerships, technology, value chain, etc., etc.)
The reason Apple sells bucket loads of product to regular people around the globe is because of insights like this. This was another one of Jobs' genius understandings. I hope Ive doesn't turn Apple's iOS design aesthetic into Windows Phone. As clean as that design is, there is nothing joyful, fun or indulgent about it.
