I'm late to the party in praising Jim Brady's CJR piece on local media, but you can still party even when you're late.
I am late reading Jim Brady’s Columbia Journalism Review piece on local media. But it’s outstanding and worth catching up on. If you care about local news and also missed it initially, …

Journalists tend to resist self-promotion. But when I learned to promote, it really helped my career.
This continues my series on professional networking. If you don’t think promotion should be part of journalism, I understand. I did little to nothing to promote myself or my work in the first…

Continuing my series on networking, I note that connections (deeper than references) helped me land 10 of my 14 jobs in my career. Well, 11 if you count Mom:
This continues my series on professional networking. I credit my skills and hard work for most of the success I’ve achieved professionally. But my professional network has helped tremendously…

Pew Research Center compiles facts about the state of newspapers. Spoiler alert: they're pretty grim. Again.

I certainly would like to see more about such companies, Gordon. But I think that companies <that happen to own newspapers> are rare, if they even exist. If they started out as newspapers, the print beast tends to dominate corporate thinking and inhibit more than trivial investment in alternative revenue sources. I used to work for TBD. I named Project Unbolt. And I'm a former information content conductor. Does that mean I shouldn't make fun of #tronc? Hell, no:
