A few personal thoughts in light of the recent immigration ban.
My father (now 93) came to the US from the Soviet Union via Iran. Technically he came here from Iran. He left USSR as a child in the early 30's and then came to US with his new wife and 1 year old daughter after WW2. Most of his life in the US was lived under a green card, he and my mom became citizens in the early 90's.
After Perestroika, my parents began thinking about visiting the Soviet Union - having not been to their home country since the 1930's. This was the motivation for getting citizenship. They were perfectly happy living here believing that they were fully American with their green card. They got citizenship because they wanted to travel to their country of origin and see family that they hadn't seen in a while.
Many of the people that they came to the US with back in the 40's probably still have only a green card. Good thing they don't travel these days. My parents got citizenship because they didn't trust the Soviet government. The drive today is to get citizenship because you may not be able to trust ours.

From an organization that is doing something instead of politicizing and posturing. There is only one right answer.
