I Finally Found an Application For My CUDA Cores!
During graduate school, I was exposed to the power of CUDA cores through my parallel computing class.  Back then, there was a relatively small number of such cores on the video card inside their shared server, something like 40 if I remember correctly.  Wit...

Annoy mobile & desktop users through push notifications through the browser!
To say the least, the new power present in the combination of Google Chrome, Google Cloud Messaging (GCM), and a new HTML5 concept called service workers has the power to help you develop robust applications involving push notifications without the requirin...

Hah, yeah, all the native desktop apps that wanted your attention... The upside is you have to give each site permission to do this the first time it wants to send you a message, then you can revoke it as soon as it sends you anything you find offensive (e.g. ads).

A Day At Television City With Friends And Idols
The "G" in "GOSHtastic" stands for Game shows, so why I've had this blog for about two years and haven't posted this yet is beyond me.  It crossed my mind when the folks at work started seriously grasping my level of fandom, and I recalled an amazing recoun...

+Tommy Butler The Perl Mongers meetup is 2 Mondays away, right?  I think it'd be awesome to drive some publicity, since there's probably other people in DFW who want to see Sauce Labs in action!  Start postin' it up everywhere...

I see your /^[A-Za-z]+\s[A-Za-z]+$/ regex and raise you /^(([A-Za-z]+[\\']?)([A-Za-z]+)?\s)+([A-Za-z]+[\\']?)([A-Za-z]+)?$/  !!

+Tommy Butler This Tweet captures the original intent of the regex: https://twitter.com/SWebCEO/status/576974915284291584 Less stuff obliterated in there. ;)

+Mike South Yeah, it definitely doesn't handle Nordic or Asian names very well, for instance... nor ", Sr." or ", Jr." at this time.  However, this is only being deployed in a small area in central Texas, so it shouldn't be a big deal & will buy us some time to look into expanding it as recommended.

Adding Stock Quotes to a BriteBlox Display
Background People interested in the stock market might be inclined to have a cool stock ticker in their room or office.  While it's not quite as useful as a whole bunch of monitors displaying entire panels of quotes and graphs, it does provide at least a me...

Restoring the Granddaddy of Modern Computers: the IBM 5150
It Was a Dinosaur Back Then... At some point a very long time ago in my life, I acquired an IBM 5150 PC from my grandfather.  I'm not sure why he wanted to give it to me at that time, but I did have fond memories of playing old games on 5.25" floppy such as...

+Snare X  Haha nice, turbo mode... :-P This one has an 8088 processor at a whopping 4.77 MHz, and doesn't have the 8087 math coprocessor.  +rashantha de silva Too bad you didn't save your TI, but I recently picked up a TI99 at a video game store for not a lot of $.

The geekiest goodbye message to a marching band that an outgoing senior could write!
I marched in the band for all four years of high school, and anyone who does this obtains the right to compose a "Senior Will" that is supposed to call out special memories shared with friends, admit to any kind of silly activity or wrongdoing whose time is...

You might call this Acceptance Test-Driven Development... No matter what the fate of the AngularJS Web development framework may be in the near future, the fact of the matter is it's here now and many enterprises have, surprisingly, began to adopt it.  As s...

Saucin' Up Perl with Selenium WebDriver

Engineer for a $50B software company by day, zealous mobile & Web programmer and life enthusiast by night.
Introduction
Software engineer & tester for lots of platforms from embedded systems to million-dollar enterprise business machines.  Stock options maven, and vintage music and television game show enthusiast.  Collector and semi-frequent wearer of fine suits & dress clothes.  Formerly a scuba diver, composer, and getting back into percussion, so my perfect pitch won't be going away anytime soon.  Laments how "jack of all trades" is no longer a viable career path.
Bragging rights
Winner of several hackathons & contests, including 3rd place in the Apps for Metro Chicago contest with Owtsee in 2011. 2 Apps on the Android Market, 1 app on BlackBerry App World, 1 app on Windows Phone Marketplace. Marched in the 77th annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in 2003. Won Call for Tapes in PASIC in 2002. Scored a 94% on the Nitrox test (for scuba diving) when I was only 12.
