What does an adult look like in an open source community? http://opensource.com/life/15/4/what-does-an-adult-look-like-in-an-open-source-community (My latest blog post on @opensourceway)
We all have the facile answer, but the more interesting question when you're at the summit is, "What is an adult in the context of a community?" Red Hat founder Bob Young once said that a community is nothing more than a group of people with something in common, and he's right. There's nothing special about the community aspect of an open source project. We are a social species.

The NSA has huge capabilities – and if it wants in to your computer, it's in. With that in mind, here are five ways to stay safe

Thinking about how Openstack differs from other large open source projects: http://stephesblog.blogs.com/my_weblog/2015/03/why-openstack-is-different-from-other-open-source-projects.html
The Openstack project feels different from other open source projects to me. Let me try to explain. Henrik Ingo did an excellent analysis of open source project size versus governance structure a few years ago. Essentially, the nine largest most...

Excellent news! When was the last code review?

I am so glad I resisted pressure from Intel engineers to let /dev/random rely only on the RDRAND instruction.   To quote from the article below:

"By this year, the Sigint Enabling Project had found ways inside some of the encryption chips that scramble information for businesses and governments, either by working with chipmakers to insert back doors...."

Relying solely on the hardware random number generator which is using an implementation sealed inside a chip which is impossible to audit is a BAD idea.

Seemingly benign “Jekyll” app passes Apple review, then becomes “evil” http://arstechnica.com/security/2013/08/seemingly-benign-jekyll-app-passes-apple-review-then-becomes-evil/ …
App that sneaks into App store can be used to steal data, take stealth photos.

Seems to be implying that Apple's "digital signature" is flawed but I'm going to have to spend more time figuring out how.

Definitely. I liked that it wasn't more "Lean In" advice. There may even be observable psychology behind it.
