Explaining MCC to my mother

I'm not sure if this counts as a session report, but this is  more or less verbatim conversation I had this morning with my mom when I tried to explain to her +Jim Wampler 's upcoming Mutant Crawl Classic system. (Note: Jim gave me permission to re-post this publicly...)

"So, MCC is a role-playing game, like D&D, but fully compatible with the DCC ruleset, but set in a different time period in the far future after the great apocalypse, like Damnation Alley, except the technology before the apocalypse was much more advanced, like Star Trek, and the apocalypse has allowed humans, animals, and plants to mutate, like the characters in Guardians of the Galaxy."

Am I a finally a real author now?
That there, my friends, is the stub from the check I cashed today as compensation for an adventure that will be published by Goodman Games sometime in the future. I know I've been self-publishing for a while now as Thick Skull Adventures and have contributed with other fine authors to Hypercube of Myt, but somehow this just feels more real.

I'm now going to go sip sherry and start referring to myself with an important-sounding initial before my name (something like E. Stephen Newton)

Finally saw last weeks Game of Thrones ("Hardhome"). I'm thinking those folks who swore off GoT two weeks earlier due to "that scene" are really missing out now. That was one of the best episodes I've ever seen.

Old coin-op video game Rampage being made into a film

So here's the link: http://www.darkhorizons.com/news/37531/dwayne-johnson-to-lead-rampage-film

...and it compels me to make the following points/questions:
1. Holy jeezus, they will make a movie out of anything
2a. I think I should write a blog post of my Top 5 Coin Ops That should be made into a movie (top of my head it would be Dragon's Lair, Gauntlet, Joust, Satan's Hollow and perhaps just to be cheeky, Crazy Climber)
2b. It was recently announced that Steven Spielberg would be directing the movie adaptation of the (brilliant) +Ernest Cline  novel Ready Player One , so (spoiler alert) we may get a chance to see at least a glimpse of some Joust action Acererak riding the buzzard!

For your viewing pleasure... A Man and His Horse
I normally keep this sort of thing isolated to my Instagram account, but I thought it was just too amusing not to share. Spotted in a Mexican food place i ate at last night in Atlanta.

And dig those Longhorns!

One small step for girls... One giant step for merchandise sales opportunities...

As a follow up to my post a couple weeks ago about how Target was, um, targeting their Minecraft swag at boys, here's a post about Disney getting the message that daughters like All The Goodies too!

Introduction

Thanks for dropping by.

Stuff I typically post about

  • DCC RPG: In my spare time I publish games as Thick Skull Adventures
  • Movies, TV, Books & Retro Games: I was weened on old-school geekery
  • Geekery: History, Cryptozoology, Paranormal nonsense and other fun topics
  • Technology: Mostly related to the day job at Dolby Laboratories working on Dolby Voice and other technology industry stuff.
  • RPG Games: I write RPG adventure games on the side (and if you have to ask what that is, you probably aren’t playing one…)

To be honest, I do more commenting than posting myself.

And for the really curious, here's more about what I'm up to...

Have actually received honest to goodness fan mail for one of my games!
