NEWS FLASH  “Business Execution for RESULTS - A practical guide for leaders of small to mid-sized firms” written by Stephen Lynch, has been named Judges’ Choice Winner in the management category of the 2014 Small Business Book Awards. (Link http://amzn.to/11l3REB )

The Small Business Book Awards celebrate the best business books that appeal to entrepreneurs, small business owners, CEOs, managers and their employees.

"The Small Business Book Awards are a way to acknowledge the books that small business owners and entrepreneurs appreciated over the past year," said Ivana Taylor, Book Editor at Small Business Trends, which produces the Awards.

The Winners were chosen by an expert panel of 24 judges from the small business community in the USA. The criteria for judging the Winners included: quality and quantity of the content conveyed; usefulness to small business owners and entrepreneurs; and freshness of the subject matter or how it was treated. The level of fan support for each nominee was also taken into account by the judges when choosing the Winners.

What Elon Musk has accomplished in his life so far must make us all feel very lazy
No wonder they all drop out of school. That’s right, if you’re getting your MBA you’re learning how to get along. Those who change the world do not. They’re one step ahead of everybody else and frustrated that those behind them don’t get it, so they act in mercurial ways and get laughed at…until everybody …

"The dark side of goal setting" by @stephenlynch-
I'm a big fan of goal setting. Hundreds of studies conducted in numerous countries and contexts have demonstrated that setting goals can be a powerful driver of behavior and performance. I've written a guide on how to set a BHAG (Big Hairy Audacious Goal) for your organization. However, a Harvard study suggests that whilst goal setting has many beneficial effects, there is a potential for significant side-effects if goals are not well thought thro...

RIP Louis of the Brothers Johnson. Bass guitar hero. Most people will know him from his bass work on Michael Jackson's early albums ("Billie Jean" , "Don't Stop Til You Get Enough" etc). For me, Strawberry Letter 23 is one of the all time greatest bass lines

What do you say when a person gets into the habit of coming directly to you with a problem or issue and asks, “What do you think I should do?”Your subconscious urge will be to provide your recommendation, or even make the decision for them. Your ego gets stroked because you get to play “the expert”. It feels good.I call it “chasing the bone”.  Someone throws you the bone, and you go galloping off to fetch it like a good dog. You bring it back wit...

The 4 skills of effective frontline managers - by @StephenLynch-
New research from McKinsey & Co suggests that a small subset of skills correlate closely with the success of frontline leaders.I have written before about the importance of middle managers, and how front line supervisors have a greater impact on company performance than any other role. This stems from the key role that middle managers play in project management, coaching individual performance, and the supervision of deadlines.  For sure, this is...

Introduction

Stephen Lynch - Head of Strategy and Consulting at RESULTS.com

Author of the award-winning book; "Business Execution for RESULTS - A practical guide for leaders of small to mid-sized firms"

My book was judged Winner in the "Management" category of the 2014 Small Business Book Awards in the USA.

I help entrepreneurs to:

- Create a winning strategy
- Set and track strategic objectives
- Hold people accountable
- Turn your vision into RESULTS

I am passionate about helping our RESULTS.com clients turn their vision into RESULTS, by ensuring that our software and consulting services are at the leading edge of research-proven best practice.

I write the RESULTS.com Business Growth Tips online weekly newsletter which has over 40,000 business leader subscribers globally. I have had articles published in The Economist.

I was 'Mr. New Zealand' bodybuilding champion in 1993, a sport that taught me more about goal setting and discipline than anything I have ever done.

I also competed in the New Zealand’s Strongest Man competition, a multi-disciplined event that included me harnessing myself to a Kenworth truck and pulling it along the road, rolling cars onto their sides, and lifting 410 Kg (903 lb) barbells.  The event was described on TV as being like “A screen test for a Schwarzenegger movie”

These days I just strive to live a fit and healthy life. I eat organic food wherever possible, and keep in good shape by training with weights 3-4 times per week, and practicing yoga.

To relax, I love reading, watching movies with Bianca, and listening to music:, Drum and Bass, House, Funk, Jazz, Down-tempo, Chill-out.

Music is one of my enduring passions. I used to play bass guitar, so anything with a good bass-line grabs me.  I used to be a dance music reviewer for a music magazine, and (back in the days of vinyl and turntables) I was a nightclub DJ known as DJ Step who recorded more than 60 Drum & Bass mix CD's between 1997-2003.

I live with my lady - Bianca Te Rito – the love of my life for the last 19 years. Bianca coaches people how to deliver great video presentations, via her company STEBIAN.com
