I am truly surprised, not to mention disappointed, that my +Chromebook
went down last night.
Here's what happened:
Open it up to do some surfing and +Google Chrome
browser launches immediately, telling me that it didn't shut down properly and would I like to restore the tabs. I didn't remember having any tabs open, so I just dismissed the notification and went to type in my search in the omnibox. The browser shut itself down and relaunched after about 5-10 seconds. This time, I click restore and get to google.com
. Then go to the omnibox to type my search. Browser shutdown and launch again, same error message. Restore, go to type my search in Google.com's search box. Browser shutdown and launch again, same error message. After a few more times, the machine reboots completely.
Weird thing is that I can use the "Guest" browsing. That works with no problem. However, if I log in to any of the accounts on the Chromebook, the same thing happens with the browser relaunch and eventual machine reboot.
So, I did a powerwash to try and reset the machine. Got my account back on the machine, logged in, same issue.
Called support and talked to Brian, who was helpful. After a few minutes, he recommended that I attempt to reload the operating system. So, I thank him and wait for the email with instructions, which came in just a few minutes.
At this point, I wonder if I somehow am having a bad dream and am back on Windows?
I follow the instructions, get the OS reloaded, and now it seems to be working (although the track pad is really jumpy now). I shut the Chomebook, making sure to shut down the Chrome browser, just in case, since I have had enough of this thing for now.
Come back an hour or two later to do a little light browsing (and also just to check on it) and open it up, no error message. Launch Chrome, no error message. Browse to a site, no error message. Then the machine reboots. Hmmm... that was weird, let me try again. Open, no error; Chrome, no error; site, no error; reboot.
Shut the thing in anger and will deal with it tomorrow.+Melissa Daniels
, are you still with the Chromebook team? Do you have any suggestions? Thanks! :)
