+Man from Mars You asked, we delivered. The page is banned.
"And the moderators didst ban the Blogprotech page, and there was much rejoicing."
And I'm cleaning up the other posts in the Wall of Shame - They've done their job and no one is seeing them anymore.

Sometimes when I wake my laptop from suspension, text stops displaying. This screenshot shows the worst-case scenario. Text only stops displaying when it updates, like changing colour or the clock advancing. This only affects GTK-rendered text - VLC and Chrome are generally fine. I can reset it by logging out and logging in again. I have been unable to find anything in the /var/log/syslog that seems to be related (since there are quite a few messages about waking and logging out and logging in). I don't know where I should look for more information. This only happens on my Thinkpad T430, not on my desktop.

+Andy S none of these suggestions I've seen are solutions, just workarounds.

So, forgive me for my shallow understanding, but what is the purpose of VLC supporting Chromecast? What is in intended to eventually do? Is it supposed to be able to use a Chromecast as an output, or could it act as a Google Cast server? The latter would be much more useful to me, as it would basically eliminate the need for me to buy what I have always seen as a hardware solution for what should be a software implementation.

So we have a neural interface to a computer, which happens to connect back to the hand where the neural signal was supposed to go.
I say 3-5 years before this becomes a gaming mechanism or HID. I say 3-5 and not less because it is relatively difficult to get a chip in one's brain compared to buying a device (even a special one like a mouth-controlled input).
A new study of a 24-year-old man who broke his neck five years ago is the first account of limb reanimation in a person with profound paralysis.

At least it's being used medically first. Like I said, I'm sure it will be used by gamers soon.

I have a game DVD (the game runs in Wine) that I and my brother both use on the same machine. The problem is, if I mount it, then my brother can't use it because the game doesn't recognize it, and it has to be ejected and remounted (and vice versa). I know that not too long ago, removable media was mounted by root such that optical discs were mounted at /media/cdrom0, but now it is at /media/username/CDlabel. Is there a way to not have to remount the disc all the time?

+Stephen Angelico if you own it and are not breaking any encryption there is literally nothing with which you can be concerned.
But you can still go the route you mentioned, by setting up two letters pointing to /media/yourname/nameofdisc and /media/brothersname/nameofdisc so that one will always be empty and the other should work as long as either of you have it mounted.

I love my Thinkpad, and I love Ubuntu MATE. And I see no reason that I can't make that clear to everyone. Oh, yeah: My stickers arrived!

In the update to ttf-mscorefonts-installer, It appeared to succeed, but I got these errors that slightly concern me.
Can't drop privileges? That sounds dangerous.

+Nicolas Bour I know they are installed. But I'm a little concerned that root privileges could not be dropped. That means they were downloaded as root, which could cause some issues if there are any vulnerabilities in downloading.

I have seen this exact link before, but not from this profile. It looks like someone is paying for website clicks or something (the same link was posted to a bunch of other tech communities, some including PHP so not at all relevant). This was posted to the Moderator Announcements category, so an instant deletion is merited there. And look at the body of the post. Doesn't it look like someone desperately wants you to click the link?
This is Denis. Denis is a spammer. Don't be like Denis. Denis got BANNED.

What is Rsync and how to use it ? With Examples !

Rsync is an open source utility that provides fast incremental file transfer. Rsync is typically used to synchronize files and directories between two different systems.

The GSOV props room is so tidy now! I and +Erin Williamson have been so busy for about 3 months getting it to be navigable and syncing up the database. It's a pity I didn't take a before photo, but basically there was hardly room to move. Now we just need to database locations and take photos of everything...

Here is a prime example of one kind of post we don't want to see. Not only is it about Ubuntu, it's about a spin-off. Also this was spammed to many other communities, another big no-no around here.

Straight after installing MATE 1.12, I have a new sensor available on the panel - the GPU fan. The problem is that it says 40 RPM. As 40 RPM is one every 1.5 seconds, I thought it to be impossible. I checked in hardware, and it's spinning quite well. The problem seems to be that nvidia-settings is reporting the speed to be 40%, presumably of the maximum speed.
To fix this, is it necessary to know every card that will report speed in percentages and the maximum fan speed? And will the GPU model be sufficient (eg GeForce GT 640), or will it be different from one card manufacturer to another even with the same GPU?
If absolute speed can't be determined, is it possible to convert the sensor so that it will display % instead of RPM automatically based on GPU model?

Since upgrading to VLC 2.2.1 on Ubuntu 15.10, I can't seem to get the GTK Open File dialog. I am forced to use the Qt dialog, which I don't like. Previously I used 2.2.0, where it used the GTK dialog. Is there a way to restore this?

After posting this question on Stack Exchange, I was told I need the package libqt5libqgtk2. Did the trick perfectly.
