Remember that rescue we found? Meet Wally. Almost 3 months ago we found Wally wandering around a park, injured and obviously starving. Despite his troubles, he trusted us to load him up and get him to a vet. He's approximately 8 years old with some crazy arthritis. My sister did most of the nursing so we could keep Wally separate from Lady Stormageddon (the baby) and now he's found his forever home with my folks. But look how far he's come! Stronger every day Wally!

Lovely shot. You both look well, albeit a bit tired maybe? I bet she keeps you busy :)

Rescued a dog today! This little fella wandered up to us at a park. Clearly malnourished with a blind eye and an injured back leg. We scooped him up and took him to the vet. He's an older dog, who's had a hard life and needs a little tlc and a warm home. We may not be his forever home, but we're going to help him get healthy. He hasn't been aggressive and seems gentle.

We spent one night here and had a fantastic experience. Hotel staff greeted us out front and signaled ahead to the check in staff. We were greeted with fresh wash cloths and juice on check in. Excellent service, wonderful room with a very comfortable bed. We had a ground floor room off the fountain courtyard. We loved the charm, but we also loved how close the hotel was to the center of town. We enjoyed walking down the Avenida Central to the mercado. Had dinner in the restaurant. Our server was a bit stiff/quiet at first, but eventually opened up and we had a fabulous experience. The brulee cheese appetizer was simply scrumptious. We had a great night of sleep after soaking in the roof top jacuzzis before bed. I wish we'd stayed here again on our last night returning to San Jose. We just loved the boutique feel of the hotel and the friendly, welcoming staff.

Our family stayed at the Alaska Heritage House - we had 2 rooms: the Bunker Suite for my husband, our 2 sons and me, and the Georgia Lee Boudoir for my mother-in-law. My parents were also supposed to travel, but had to cancel a few weeks away due to an injury. I simply cannot say enough positive things about our experiences, the house and the innkeepers Van and Bill. This was our sons' first stay at a B&B and they asked us if we could always vacation at B&Bs going forward. There was a gourmet breakfast every morning, notable for not being traditional. We stayed 5 nights and enjoyed everything from sourdough waffles to spinach soufle to salmon cakes. Van has a way of putting together unexpected flavors that is delightful. She also worked to accommodate my very picky younger son. Their website pictures do not do this beautiful home justice. At almost 100 years old, it's also filled with interesting photos and memorabilia - each of which Van knows the intimate history! She's a treasure trove of historical facts and a gifted story teller. I only wish I'd stopped and recorded her when she spoke. The rooms were absolutely spotless. The house and bathrooms were cleaner than most 4 and 5 star hotels. The wifi was stable and we were able to stream Netflix on our tablet from the basement. The beds were comfortable and we made use of our kitchenette, as well as the laundry facilities in the basement. All of the staff were incredibly friendly, helpful and cheery. We had a late flight when leaving, and Van invited us back to the house in the afternoon to rest, make use of the living areas and have refreshments. She keeps cake, walnuts and mints out on the sideboard in case you're up for an afternoon tea. Also, they had several longer-term boarders in the house. It added to the charm because it seemed everyone was more outgoing and up for conversation. We had an incredible time and I highly recommend this B&B.

Absolutely delicious. Audrey is friendly and a fantastic cook. Tried the Jamaican sorrel drink, the brown stewed chicken and the beef meat patty. The patty was spicy and flavorful. The brown stewed chicken was tender and fell off the bone. The sorrel drink was very different and complimented the other dishes. Will definitely be back and now I just want to plan a party to have her cater it.

It's a simple diner. The breakfast special was $3.49. For that price we had plenty, the food was fresh and well cooked. The coffee was more than $2/cup and the service was borderline slow, but for what it was we enjoyed it. It was a good, basic breakfast a a good, basic price.

I think that if you're used to having great Italian, the reviews are misleading. My pasta was so overcooked, it was mushy. The peas & prosciutto in cream sauce was peas and ham, in a very mediocre alfredo sauce. I'd say it's probably decent by Fairbanks standards - but as a tourist that comes from an area with great Italian eats it just doesn't live up. I'd say they give it an honest try, but it's not anything super impressive. I'm spoiled a bit by the restaurant quality in my home town. Service was slow, but we enjoy dining and didn't take any issue with the pace or attentiveness of our server. Pricing was fair and the serving portions were generous. I'd call the meal adequate.

I've tried to give this place several chances. It's in a great location on Venice Avenue with good live music. While I find the servers to be efficient and friendly, there are just enough flaws with the restaurant and so many other places more worthy of my time and money. Everything on the menu sounds good, but usually comes out very bland and mediocre. I wouldn't mind except the prices are so high, I truly expect a better meal. The food is fresh, but always disappointing. And when you walk away from dinner having dropped $100 for 3, you want more than mediocre. They've also changed their policy and now require the entire party to be present to be seated. I can understand when it's busy or your party is large, but when you're 3 people and they have more empty tables than full, the hostesses need to show a little discretion. After several visits, we just won't be back. If I'm going to spend that much - I'd rather visit the nicer restaurants on the Avenue.

We came for the Blueberry Stomp Mud Run and had a blast! The run itself was well organized, a great time and they even provided pics for free download afterwards. The mud run included 2 free drinks. The better beers had run out by the time our 9am heat finished, leaving only Bud and Bud Lite. A consumate beer snob and preferred wino, we opted to taste their fruit wines. I don't care for sweet wines (nor blueberries) but was pleasantly surprised enough by their dry blueberry wine to purchase some extra to take home. They had several wonderful food trucks and live music for after the run. We stayed for several hours as the live band was quite good. The food trucks were amazing as well. Will definitely be back for next year's mud run. It's a couple hours away, but might come back on a quieter day to get to learn more about their wines.
