"Whether you are new to writing or an old pro, brushing up on the basics is always helpful. Because no matter how GOOD the story is? If the reader is busy stumbling over this stuff, it ruins the fictive dream and she will never GET to the story. So today we are going to cover six ways to self-edit your fiction. Though this stuff might seem like a no-brainer, I see these blunders ALL the time."

From the article:

Many writers suffer from fatigue and stress. There are a lot of writers, myself included, who have so much fun when they write. It’s my favorite time of the day.

But then there are the days when something’s taken an emotional toll on me and I’m not feeling those words. And I don’t write for that day. Maybe I don’t write for several days.

I know I’m not the only one. There are plenty of writers who get discouraged and have those days when they won’t write, won’t send out query letters. Won’t even look at their current work in progress.

That doesn’t mean you don’t have endurance. Because the moment you write the next words or send out the next query letter, you’ve declared you won’t give up, no matter what. That’s endurance.

Tips on pitching your book

#pitch   #pitching   #pitmad   #pitchwars   #pitchmadness   #author
Is your 35-word pitch (aka logline) ready? Got a Twitter pitch? Many contests require a 35-word pitch to enter. If you make it into Pitch Wars, your mentor will help you come up with a short pitch, but having something ready will make the process easier. Also, #PitMad is coming June 9 from 8AM to …

Young adults are living their lives online. Sure, as an adult, you're probably also addicted to checking updates to your Facebook groups, Twitter feeds, Pinterest links, Snapchats, or Linked In requests.

Like you, I can quit any time. I swear.

It's inevitable that this online reality has influenced our fiction. As writers, we can't underestimate how handed-down tablets and smart phones have influenced the younger generations. Some have skipped email entirely to go straight into online profiles on user-heavy social media sites.

I've been going to Dr. Haque's office for about ten years. Over the years, the office has been upgraded to a classy, modern space, and customer focus has continually been improved. The staff will educate you on your teeth beyond what many dental appointments provide. Beyond heated neck pillows and patient specific music profiles (really!), Dr. Haque also uses advanced technologies like oral cancer screenings and numbing shots shown to have less sting on implementation. The staff knows that dental procedures are nobody's idea of a great time, so they do their best to make each aspect more tolerable. Additionally, the office is run well, and changing appointments has never been a problem. I recently had a claims dispute with my company's flexible spending account provider, leading to multiple calls and trips to their website to figure out where my money went. One call to Oakbrook Smiles and they solved the mystery. I should have called them first!
