Put on your pocket protector and pass the lucky peanuts. #OTD  in 1964, +NASA's Ranger 7 met the moon.

See inside mission control and the press room in this +NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory film.

I was 10 years old at the time. I was really into space and I was up on the moon probes ahead of Apollo 11.

Come #SpaceOut  with +NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory and +DNews! Like Voltron, we've assembled a fun team here on lab to talk about the Curiosity Mars rover and what's ahead for the mission.

Each month DNews will sit down with NASA to discuss amazing space topics!

This month, as the 2nd Anniversary of Curiosity landing on Mars is quickly approaching, we thought it would be a great time to talk about the Red Planet!

Our guests will include:
Ashwin Vasavada, deputy project scientist
Bobak Ferdowsi, systems engineer, Mohawk guy
Nagin Cox, tactical uplink lead
Matt Heverly, rover driver
Amy Shira Teitel, Spaceflight historian

Join hosts Trace Dominguez and Dr. Ian O'Neill this Wednesday, July 30th at 4pm PDT as we attempt to figure out the universe. Leave questions below or tweet them to @DNews with the hashtag #SpaceOut for a chance to have them answered on-air!
This Hangout On Air is hosted by DNews. The live video broadcast will begin soon.

Really had to work hard to get all the "In Soviet Russia, Mars Land on YOU!" jokes out of my system before posting about this.

Back from the USSR (Era): Did some Russian fans of NASA’s Curiosity Mars Rover spot the 1971 Soviet Mars 3 lander in this HiRISE pic?

How I spent my day. (And most of my year.)
The spacetweeps were full of Thai food and beer when they finally rolled back to Gale House, nearing the end of a pretty good day on Earth.

This month, we'll be talking about Jupiter's icy moon Europa. Could its subsurface oceans harbor life? What extreme engineering challenges would we have to overcome to explore it? What field work is going on on Earth right now to help find life on other worlds?

Our guests will include:
Kevin Hand
Astrobiologist and Deputy Chief Scientist, Solar System Exploration
@Alienoceans

Bobak Ferdowsi
Engineer, proposed Europa Clipper mission, aka "NASA Mohawk Guy"

Head outside on Friday at 2:27 p.m. PDT (5:57 p.m. EDT, 2127 UTC) and wave toward the East. The Cassini spacecraft will be taking a picture of Earth from space.

Tag pics of you & your friends with #waveatsaturn  and they could be used in a special collage made by the Cassini team.

#WaveAtSaturn on Friday, July 19, when +NASA's Cassini spacecraft will take a picture of Earth from deep #space.

Find out what time to wave and how to participate from this guide.

So proud to be representing these real-life "Real Genius"es. Sorry, the laser can't be redirected to make popcorn, but it's still pretty cool.

Sounds like a movie blockbuster, but it's real. +NASA 's #OPALS project readies to beam data from space via laser.
