My #OpenClosed this week satiates every craving from authentic African fare to handmade dumplings.

There’s a variety of pizza, burgers, and steak to choose from. Tuck into Israeli breakfast, Greek favourites, Ethiopian + Eritrean fare, and carefully curated tapas. Sip on rosé all day, craft beer, and cocktails. And leave room for gelato and cinnamon buns.

And that’s just to start.

The Ontario Vintage Market at Evergreen Brick Works isn’t just a fab place to discover cool finds for home. It turns out they have a small, but incredible food court. With so many choices including Tibetan, Mexican, Indian, and gluten-free dishes, you’re going to have to make multiple trips.

Not-to-be-missed: the mouthwatering Butter Chicken Roll ($9) at 6ixTriangles. p.s. It’s also massive - this is just half.

#FoodDayCanada is a celebration of Canadian food and drinks, farmers and producers.

So shop local as much as you can. Add Canadian meat, seafood, milk, cheese, eggs, poultry, ice cream, grains, legumes, fruit, vegetables, fresh herbs, spices, pasta, flours, oats, salt, oil, sugar, nuts, seeds, vinegar, honey, mustard, pickles, ketchup, maple syrup, caviar and foie gras to your shopping list. Don’t forget local craft beer, bitters, spirits, and VQA wine!

Visit your local farmers’ market. And of course, support restaurants that use local, seasonal ingredients.

About last night: The Distillery District’s Stirling Room was transformed into a Sipsmith gin parlour, complete with cookies, a short history lesson, and of course plenty of gin.

When one of your heroes passes away.

#JonathanGold was the first restaurant critic to win the Pulitzer Prize for criticism. His book “Counter Intelligence: Where to Eat in the Real Los Angeles” is a revelation.

I’m holding my copy extra tight today.

p.s. Watch the brilliant documentary “City or Gold” directed by Laura Gabbert ASAP.
