Refresh your habits and your mouth with these tips for proper at-home oral hygiene:

- Brush 2 times a day: Once before or after breakfast in the morning and again right before bed at night. Don't brush too hard or more than 3 times a day or you could cause wear with the gums or tooth enamel. Clean every surface of the teeth, don't skip. Replace your toothbrush after about 3-4 months, or sooner if you feel the need.

- Floss 1-2 times a day: If once, right before brushing at night. If twice, after breakfast or lunch then again at night is best. If you don't like the floss around the finger, there are ezee-flossers that have the floss pre-tied to a plastic handle to make it really easy.

- Visit the dentist every 6 months: Waiting longer can cause harm as plague and bacteria builds up and cavities or gum disease spreads. A visit can also identify other dental, gum or jaw issues that should be treated sooner rather than later.
