Do you earn good money in #translation?
To give you a better idea of how you compare to the market, I have drawn some data from #proz
. The data shows »the average rates reported by ProZ.com's community of freelance translators and translation companies that users have entered into their ProZ.com profiles.«
According to this data, the average price is 0.10 € per word.
The minimum is 0.05€, max is 0.17€.
While it does not make sense for me (from a political point of view), it's no surprise, that some language combinations are below, others are above 0.10 €.
The worst-paid language combinations are:
- Czech to Romanian
- Czech to Slovak
- Estonian to Latvian
- Greek to Ukrainian
- Lithuanian to Russian
- Romanian to Polish
- Slovak to Russian
(all 0.07 € per word in average)
The best-paid language combinations are:
- Danish to Icelandic
- French to Icelandic
- German to Icelandic
- Slovak to Dutch
- Chinese to Dutch
- Dutch to Finnish
- English to Icelandic
- French to Finnish
- Norwegian to Finnish
- Portuguese to Danish
(all 0.15 € per word in average)
Personally I think this is something that should be discussed in this industry: Equal payment for equal work – globally!
I have put the 33 source languages (each with x target languages) into an excel table and uploaded it. Feel free to download it and compare it to your standard rate and play around with the data.
