Now it's about why he didn't go to law enforcement or a child abuse helpline when a graduate assistant told Paterno he'd seen a former assistant coach having sex with a boy in the Penn State football facility.
And now the chant is louder, and only sometimes qualified.
From Bob Ford at the Philadelphia Inquirer (http://ow.ly/7kq8I ): "Joe Paterno is done."
From Mike Wise at The Washington Post (http://ow.ly/7kq7M ): "If Sandusky is guilty, Paterno would be guilty ..."
From Dan Wetzel at Yahoo! Sports (http://ow.ly/7kqaJ ): "While (Paterno) may have committed no crime, he must fully explain the actions he took after hearing such an unspeakable allegation."
From Gene Collier in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette (http://ow.ly/7kqqK ): "It's truly staggering that these professional academics -- including Paterno -- when faced with an allegation so serious and so sanctimoniously mishandled by the Catholic church almost simultaneously, somehow knew only the wrong thing to do."
From a Catholic priest who founded an organization to counsel abuse survivors, via the New York Daily News (http://ow.ly/7kquN ): “At the very least, he should be fired,” said Robert Hoatson. “Any adult who learns about a child being abused should immediately go to the police.”
What Paterno did -- and apparently didn't do, according to the grand jury presentment -- has given child abuse protection advocates a platform to drive their point home.
@aaroncitychurch on Twitter ( ) posted this, for those of you in Pennsylvania: "Sandusky story is troubling. 800-932-0313 is the PA Childline number to call if you suspect abuse"
If you're not in Pennsylvania, this might be a good time to Google the child abuse prevention hotline where you are, and write it down, just in case.
Welcome back, Joao.
