I feel I have to try and make clear how I, as a Dutch person, think this income would work. ( Within the current statism fuelled confines we currently find ourselves in ).

The current Socialist support system in the Netherlands got to expensive in the 80's, mostly because a lot of fraud.
So the government made it difficult to cheat. In short that required two changes.
1. Strict conditions to adhere to.
2. Lots of officials to check up on all the applicants.

The consequence of this that a lot of people don't try to work ( for money ) any more, because they would lose in welfare what they gained in wages. So they hardly contribute to the economy.
And the bureaucrats responsible for checking up on those on welfare are not much better of. Since they, imho, use up a lot of the tax payers euros producing idle, angry people on welfare.

The Idea of the "Unconditional Basic Income" is to provide enough money to everyone to support themselves in their basic needs. Water, Food and Shelter.
What the amount of euros covers that expense is still "under debate".

How to pay for it all?
First all forms of welfare, from child support to government pension will be abolished.
Since children will get a portion of the Basic Income as well.
The control device that manages the current welfare system won't be needed, freeing up a sizeable amount of money for the UBI ( I guess I'll call it that for now ) and the labor that went in to it is free to "produce" other, hopefully more positive, things. Be it poetry, chairs or helping others do their taxes.
The estimate is that about € 5.000.000.000.000,- extra will be needed for the Netherlands alone, and the "hope" is that will be generated by a more productive population.

The expectation is that the end result will be that young people stay in school longer, making most of them more productive tax payers ( still Statist "cattle" but I'll roll with it for now ) and most the people on welfare restrictions will be able to improve their lot in life the way they see fit.
Increasing personal freedom.
So if you want that ipad, big tv and sports car, you will still have to work for it.

Does it end Statism, no. But the overwhelming amount of rules, regulations and exceptions that make up welfare as we know it will be history.
I don't think it wil end the political manoeuvring to get this or that minority to vote for this or that party.
Will we replace 1 socialist utopia with an other? Yes.

Between the 2 I personally choose the "Unconditional Basic Income" over the current situation.
Because; It's a cause that helps the different groups and minorities come together instead of being set up against each other.

I'll end my post with the traditional greeting of non native English speakers everywhere
I'm sorry for my bad English, here is a potato.

+Steef de Jong You may have sold me on the idea of some sort of universal income. I'm so anti welfare that It's a hard sell, but when you put it in terms of eliminating the current setup and bureaucracy, it starts to make sense as a safety net.

I'm still a bit "iffy" about giving it to single mothers though, as I'm conflicted on whether I want to support people having children, but this is the closest to be sold I've ever been.

Interesting.
It almost seems like these people are working hard to make sure they are relevant.
Because irrelevant science does not get funding.

If not those, at least the talk is amusing.

I tried to play Fractured Space, but it kept crashing when I tried to join a game.
And I regret not having the time to troubleshoot it.

FOUR HORSEMEN is an award winning independent feature documentary which lifts the lid on how the world really works.

As we will never return to 'business as usual' 23 international thinkers, government advisors and Wall Street money-men break their silence and explain how to establish a moral and just society.

FOUR HORSEMEN is free from mainstream media propaganda -- the film doesn't bash bankers, criticise politicians or get involved in conspiracy theories. It ignites the debate about how to usher a new economic paradigm into the world which would dramatically improve the quality of life for billions.
