Shhh... don't tell my host that I'm a little disappointed this is where she choose to take me for lunch on my first trip to Maddison! The Brats are really not great, I got the Red Brat that 'Alumni Love' and I've had better brats at a tailgate! Brat had no extraordinary flavor and the bun was blah. Though I did love the decor in this bar, the beer selection, the mustard/condiments bar, the plethora of tv's and the nice nice people! I can see how this would be a fun place to come as a college student!

Absolutely terrible. All of the drinks are watered down. Asked for a double jameson and could drink it straight it was so weak...

I've been here several times and more than once I've witnessed the kitchen staff not using gloves when they grab their brats and throw them on the grill.

Just an absolutely awful place. Went there for my 21st, the bouncers said I could get a free shot. I went up to buy a drink and get my shot at 11:40PM. I wait for 15 minutes, the bartender looks at my ID and says it's not my birthday anymore. I show her the date and time and she just ignores it and moves on. It was a pretty poor way to treat a customer that was about to buy drinks with five other friends. Let's hope you don't get the blonde bartender on a Tuesday night if you go.

Without its unique seating area on the main floor, State Street Brats would probably be 4 stars at best. As the name suggests, they do brats, burgers, fries, cheese curds, and not a whole lot else. But they make what they make, and have a condiment bar if you choose to go to town. The reason the seating area is so important is two-fold. One, instead of ordinary tables in the center, they have island bars. These are great for sitting and conversing, but if you have a larger crowd, it is not awkward to stand next to. With all the TVs on the wall, it's a great game day place. But even on Friday or Saturday nights, the dance floor and main alcohol bar are on the second floor, so you can go up there and party if you want, but you can stay on the first floor and drink casually if that is your thing (it is mine).

Great when I was in school in Madison. Now it's just a greasy undergrad bar. Man, getting old sucks.
